Do You Scream For Ice Cream? 1960 F250

1960 Ford F-250 Ice Cream Truck

Disclosure: This site may receive compensation from some link clicks and purchases.

Doesn’t everyone want their own ice cream truck? This original Good Humor truck with working ice cream box is in Salt Lake City, Utah and is offered here on eBay at no reserve with bidding currently at $3k. Sure, it needs body work, and the paint looks like it may have been applied with a brush. But it runs and drives and is powered by the old Ford inline 6. We don’t know a whole lot else about this truck, although just the fact that it runs and drives implies that it’s at least gotten some maintenance. Just imagine the fun you could have at classic car shows selling, or even giving away ice cream! I’ll bet you would be the most popular vehicle at the show, especially if it’s hot outside! Who wouldn’t love that!

That would be an interesting site at a car show, I wouldn’t mind having it as a novelty and maybe make a couple bucks at the shows. One thing is he states the cooler compressor works when plugged in, I always thought they ran off the trucks wiring system, am I mistaken ?

J.W., from what I could tell, there are some that plugged into the wall overnight and formed ice that kept the goodies cooled throughout the next day. There are others with on-board refrigeration/freezing.

Hi, I’m the Garrett on the side of the truck. My father was the previous owner of this truck. It was originally at our house in Fitchburg, MA for many years. My father had it painted by some old lady back in the day and yes she painted it by hand. He used to do birthday parties and public events with the truck to make extra income when I was young. I used to ride to events with him sitting on top of the compressor and from what I remember it would run while we were driving to events.

Thanks for the info Jamie, In 1969 at the tender age of 16 I drove a ice cream truck for the summer. It was for a company called “Eskimo Pie” ice cream company. That truck looked more like the one featured earlier that resembled a milk truck but ours had a flat nosed front end and yes it had it’s own self contained refrigeration unit.

While I’d love to get my hands on a ’60 Ford, I’m not all that enthused about a ’60 Ford ice cream truck. Keeping that in mind I’d let this one go to someone who actually wants an ice cream truck…

I think one of these Ford based Good Humor trucks, in mint condition with a working reefer unit went for around $30 grand at Greenwich on an episode of Wayne Carini’s show a couple of seasons ago.

I drove a slightly later model for Good Humor one summer to help pay for college. It had a cab with no right side door or seat so you could pull up and hop out easily to make those sales. We were warned to take it very easy on corners and curves because with that heavy freezer box and all its contents ‘way up above the frame, the trucks had a very high center of gravity. Mine definitely felt tippy.

Sorry to burst your bubble …. that’s NOT a Good Humor Truck! – – Never was !!
In fact you can tell by the smaller than stock freezer …… just attached to a pick-up with no bed…, stock fenders, no body flare to rear….. and most Good Humor Trucks had the roof cut.

    …. Nice try, though …………
