One of the hottest cars (sales-wise) in the mid-1960s was the Impala Super Sport. Beginning as a mainstream option in 1962, it became a series of its own in 1964 – and continued in production through the rest of the decade. The 1966 Impala SS here is a convertible that was stuffed away in a barn with limited protection from the elements, so its restoration will consume both time and (lots of) money. Now out in the daylight north of Charlotte, North Carolina, this drop-top project is available here on craigslist for $5,500. Another Bow-Tie tip brought our way by Chuck Foster!
Chevrolet had a banner year in 1965, with its full-size cars selling more than one million copies for the first time. With limited changes in styling in 1966, sales had nowhere to go but down, which they did. The popular Impala SS had new competition internally from the high-end Caprice introduced in 1965, so SS production saw a decrease from 243,000 to 119,000 copies in ’66 (the Caprice outsold the SS by nearly 50%).
The Impala Super Sport was adorned with SS front fender emblems, an Impala SS-accented grille and rear deck badge, SS full-wheel covers, vinyl-covered bucket seats, and a center console. They were offered in convertible and 2-door hardtop body styles. Virtually any Chevy engine could be ordered and the 327 cubic-inch V8 was likely the most often selected, like the one in the seller’s auto, which we’re told is numbers-matching.
Not much is known or shared about the plight of this ’66 Chevy, which was left to fend for itself many years ago. It’s hard to determine the condition of the body with just four photos, but the seller does say that there’s rust in the floorboards and trunk. When that occurs, you’re likely to find more as you sort through things. The odometer reading is 45,000, so did something mechanical give up then, or has the gauge turned over? This could be a great car when restored, but be sure to have enough resources before you get started.
Somebody put a dual reservoir master cylinder on it.Need a LOT more pics to price it.5500 sounds fair by the 2 pics but definitely needs a good lookin at.
Reminds me of the ’66 SS in Chevrolet’s 2021 Christmas commercial.

I’m not crying, you’re crying!
Reminds me of a time when you could buy something like this for $500 instead of $5,000. Couple of weeks cleaning/ tinkering and you’d be on the road. And you wouldn’t need a box of tissues.
Everything has gotten a lot more expensive since 1975.
Please post more pictures. The full interior is important as well as the underside.
Gone!
Bet ya lunch the frame is toast. Good luck to the new owner; this one is drop dead gorgeous when done. Good luck!
Cheers

One of the best designs Chevrolet had in a full size car. I always liked the console w/ gauges and the tach in the dash. Simple, clean and beautiful. My second favorite to a 1963 Impala SS.
A SS and convertible, you cannot go wrong with that rare combination!
I would like to purchase this car.
Big T musta bought it. It’s gone.
