E&G Classics Blingmobile: 1989 Cadillac Seville

You’ll have to dig back into the retro section of your closet for your white shoes and white belt for this one, it’s a 1989 Cadillac Seville and it’s loaded with E&G Classics accessories. This blingmobile can be found here on craigslist in the last city on the globe that I expected it to be in – Portland, Oregon. The seller is asking what sounds like a reasonable $2,800 for this fancy, front-drive, frou-frou’d-up Cadillac.

The Cadillac Seville went through a few radical design changes before finally going away in 2004. This is a third-generation Seville and the second generation to be front-wheel-drive. I don’t know if a lot of Cadillac aficionados ever really took to the idea of a front-wheel-drive Seville, but I could be mistaken. You can see some faded paint on this car and the headlight surrounds could use some work, but the body looks very nice from what is visible in the photos. It’s priced exactly at Hagerty’s #3 good condition value and that doesn’t take into account the custom touches.

Speaking of custom touches, as if a third-gen K-body front-wheel-drive Seville wasn’t cool enough, this one is loaded with goodies from E&G Classics – now E&G Corporation. Yes, they’re still in business – for over 40 years – thank you very much. I automatically think of Florida when I see a car with accessories such as the faux convertible top, chrome trunk straps, and especially the Continental Kit spare tire on the rear bumper, my absolutely least favorite automobile feature of all time. Those extras really make this Seville stand out from the crowd.

The seller is only the second owner of this now 30-year-old Seville and they’ve owned it since 1996. That’s a long time to own a vehicle by almost anyone’s standards. Most of us change out our vehicles every few years unless it’s a classic or collector vehicle and then we may own it for decades. They don’t show us the engine, unfortunately, but it should be GM’s 4.5L, or 273 cubic-inch, V8 which would have had 155 hp and 240 ft-lb of torque. This is not a light car at 3,500 pounds but even with just 155 hp, the 0-60 time is a respectable 10 seconds. I’m guessing that the front seats need some help but the back seat looks good.

Here’s one more view of that Florida’licous continental kit! And, a view of the trunk under that possibly-empty spare tire holder. The seller says that this car mostly sits but is driven once a month and it starts, runs, and drives fine but it has to be checked out before driving any great distance. If you’re planning on flying to PDX and driving this baby back to Ft. Lauderdale, don’t bother to drop a dime, the seller would rather not have you do that. I’m odd in that I like this generation Seville, and actually it’s the last generation that I like. Have any of you owned one of these smaller third-generation Sevilles?

I think Liberace once owned this, sold it because it was way too gauche and tasteless even for him.

I like these cars in their base form. This one has way too much 80’s excess junk on it.

I am a Cadillac guy…But this is truly one of the ugliest Cadillacs I have ever seen. Please someone buy it and remove all of that applied trash. It will look much better and be worth more money.

There is not one thing elegant about this. I would not drive this if you offered it to me for free.

I think Liberace had a Lincoln Versailles that was done up in his inimitable style. I saw a video about it and it was a subsequent owner that added the candelabra hood ornament!

Would make great prop in Scorsese’s next wiseguy film-if there are any more coming!

I guess I’m in the minority here when I say this is right up my alley. Too bad its on the opposite side of the map or else this would be in my garage.

This thing has already passed the “Blingmobile” stage and regressed all the way down to “Pimpmobile” status.

It is very apearent that in the 1980s and 90s GM fired all of their designers and let the execs design these fugly cars!!! GM cars of these two decades were tasteless, boxy, small and lacked any imagination. Even the interiors are fugly.
I love Cadillacs, ya’ll know that, have had many, but basically stopped after 1976, the last of the really big ones (and they were rear wheel drive).
Hate this car. It should be shot and buried.

I bought an ’86 Seville Elegante (4.1 liter) for my 22 yr. old girlfriend/wife around 1988. Same car, but more premium, and no straps or Cont. kit. It was dark pink/berry – incl. all of the interior (leather). Had wire caps. The car was absolutely stunning. She drove it to college in Orlando. The car really needed another 40 – 50 HP, but I set up some very low ET’s on long trips with it. I remember one 500 mi. run from Mobile to Orlando where my median speed was around 100. All in very plush comfort. The dealer couldn’t solve some running problem so I sold it. It was so uniquely gorgeous that I have always regretting selling it. Wherever we went, it was always the classiest car. I have never seen another one like it.

This wretched thing is so bad it’s actually kind of good. If the price was right, say a couple grand less, I might get it just to see people’s reaction.

I prefer the Gen 1 Seville. I’ve been told that it was based on the Nova platform and the FI 350 was a great pairing. I knew someone that had one, and it got over 25 MPG. This thing is just too over accessorized for my taste.

I picked up an ’87 Sedan Deville for $400 from an estate I cleaned out about 10 years ago. White with a blue I/2 vinyl roof and a blue leather interior. Got it up and running, put new tires on it and gave it to the wife for a daily driver. She really liked it except the MPGs were pretty bad. It had all the bells and whistles offered at the time and was a good-looking car. It was dependable and luxurious, a great car for long trips. I had no complaints and enjoyed driving it but got rid of it because we don’t own an oil well; it was just too thirsty. She always wanted a Lincoln, so I found her a nice ’07 Lincoln MKZ which she loves and is a little better on fuel.

Wouldn’t want this one, too pimped out for my taste. Give Huggy Bear or Shaft a call, it’s more their speed.

Probably one of the ugliest Caddys ever.

1950 Dodge sedan appears to be the template for this dog poo.

And do not even mention the power train.

The seller should be paying the buyer to get rid of it

Actually, the dressed up Cavalier was the Cimmaron. This is not that, but similar in many ways.
Scotty, I too love the oddball cars you like, but we can’t always agree lol. I like the tack a accessories far better than the car itself. Just not my cup of tea.

I have a 1988 Eldorado dressed up with all the E and G goodies! I love it. I get nothing but compliments when I take it out! I too have owned many Cadillacs, but have been drawn to the one’s with E and G addons! I love them
