Estate Find: 1967 Ford Galaxie 500

I wonder how many people would guess that Ford only made the Galaxie 500 with stacked headlights for three short years? Most Barn Finds readers would know that just by picturing the 1964 and 1968 Ford Galaxies in their head but it sure seems as if they were around for longer than that to me. This 1967 Ford Galaxie 500 is listed here on eBay in Hazleton, Pennsylvania, and in keeping with oddball 2021 and its oddball everything, the current bid price is $4,777.89.

Maybe I’m thinking of the stacked-headlight Fairlanes when I think that Ford made the Galaxie for more than three years with stacked headlights. Enough with the headlights for cryin’ out loud. This car is a bit of a mystery as far as whether it ran when it was either driven or pushed into its current resting spot or not. The seller is listing it for the son of the original owner who has passed away. He was a mechanic so I’m just assuming that it had been maintained at least until it was parked?

We don’t know how long it’s been sitting here and it’s less dusty than a car that I have in a storage unit and had totally detailed one year ago. I took it out a couple of weeks ago and it was covered with dust thicker than what’s on this Galaxie. I may need a better seal on the storage unit door. I don’t see many or really any flaws in this car and the seller has provided a lot of photos – sadly none of them are overall shots because of the location of the car in the garage. Ford built almost 200,000 two-door hardtop Galaxie 500s in 1967.

The third-generation Galaxie was made for model years 1965 through 1968 with the 1968 models being slightly redesigned, including losing the stacked headlights. In 1969, they had hidden headlights so Ford was all over the board in 1967, 1968, and 1969, headlight-wise. The interior looks great in this Galaxie 500 although as almost always, a quick vacuum and wiping down the surfaces could have made it really look nice. The back seat basically looks new.

The engine is Ford’s 390 cubic-inch V8 with a two-barrel carb and around 270 horsepower. Hagerty is at $4,500 for a #4 fair condition car and not knowing the running condition or general operating condition of anything on this Galaxie, who knows what it needs. I hope that the next owner can have it on the road again without too much time or money. Have any of you owned a stacked-headlight Galaxie?

If I were in the market,I’d be going to look at it.
I’d want to see it in person, before spending that kind
    of money.
As you may know,’67 is my favorite year of these.

Apparently there is one of these in my mental pictorial file cabinet from back in the day. I can easily visualize it, cleaned up and back on the road. I always liked that silvery green color with the matching interior, offset with the black vinyl roof. I even like the whitewall/ wheel cover look. Would make a fine cruiser. I hope someone can rescue it.

My Dad bought a ‘67 Ford ex Seattle Police Car at auction. It was a pretty impressive car. Decent performance, and surprisingly good handling for a car of its size- if you had the biscuits to turn the tiny factory steering wheel without benefit of power steering. It was taken on a cross country trip and it could eat up the asphalt. 2 door hardtop is better looking though…

My dad traded our 1964 Impala and $400 for a 1967 Galaxie 500. We had that car for years, it had the 390 and it would fly once you got it past 40 mph. The only issues we had with it in the 15 years we had was the choke and the flywheel. She loved to eat starters. I really miss that car!

The inspection sticker should be a sign of the last time she run. Looks like fresh grease on the hood. Someone was doing something.

bud had one. Wish I knew the yr cuz it hada 1/2 dox gauges acc the dash. They were inset w/the ‘plastic bumper’ surrounds (back in the day when switched frm metal dash to ‘padded’ NHTSA law). He left a pac-a ciggs in the far right and said “If U can grab them U can have them.” and tromped the pedal. I saw the telephone wires and could not lift my arm.
