Estate Sale Find: 1966 Ford Bronco

This 1966 Ford Bronco has been in project-mode for some time, awaiting its shot at restoration. The seller snagged it out of an estate sale offered by the longtime owner’s children, so history is minimal. The floors are rough but it is said to be very complete, with a straight-six engine, three on the tree, and new tires. The Bronco was found in New Mexico, so hopefully the floors are the worst of it. The Bronco is offered here on eBay for $15,000.

The Bronco is a desirable project for a few reasons, but the biggest is its uncut body and stock condition. The seller claims the issue with the floors is due to some contents that were stored inside the truck that trapped moisture rather than the Bronco being driven in an unforgiving climate. The rear bumper is missing but I don’t hate the way it looks, to be fair; I would also leave the paintwork with the surface rust in place as well.

You can see the daylight poking through the floor; no question, those floors need some work. Still, patch panels for these trucks are easy to find, and this is the sort of project anyone half-decent with a welder should be able to DIY. The dash looks clean and the matching paint on the center tunnel and doors suggests that the exterior color is original. The seats can likely be saved, too, as they don’t appear to be structurally compromised.

The previous owners claim the truck has not been driven for at least 20 years. You love seeing original details like the windshield washer fluid bag still attached to the inner fender; it suggests this Bronco has been left undisturbed for some time. The engine is known for its ruggedness, but it would still be helpful to know whether it turns freely. As per the asking price, what do you think – is $15K a fair number for a project Bronco with an uncut body?

Way too much money for way too much rust.

The washer fluid bag is 14.5, we’ll throw in the truck for five hundred bucks.

Doesn’t say if it runs (no battery), engine caked with dirt, and looks like it spent some time in a lake. I assume the 4 holes in the right were for a spare tire carrier, but where is that?

This might be a go at $3500.00, but no more.

Looks pretty crusty for a NM truck. Transfer case shifter is missing – that’s odd. $15K is waaayyy too much for a rusty 6 cylinder truck that needs nearly everything.

The T Case shift lever is gone and the T Case is held up with a chain wrapped around the frame so I’m guessing the rear crossmember is missing by the looks of it.
Regardless it is either sold or no longer for sale, the listing has been removed.

I’ll bet they got what they asked. These Bronco’s are the hottest thing on the planet, right now.

Having purchased an early Bronco in the last year and watched this market closely, I can say that $15K is way too much for this vehicle. With all the rust (what you can see and undoubtedly what you can’t see) and the relatively undesirable inline-six, this truck is worth about $5K.

I recall an episode of Fast And Loud where they bought one of these that another shop said was in great shape. Turns out that these can have rust in places that even the designers didn’t know it had places.
I wouldn’t touch this clapped out money trap with a fork, which would probably go right through it.

    but they pay that.
The AMX looks like the one to have on this listing and that’s over priced for the ‘wrong’ engine. May B the gremlin?

The last year I was in the Air Force (1974) and stationed at the SAC Base in Grand Forks, ND, I purchased a new 1974 Ford Bronco at Red River Motors in East Grand Forks, for $5,000.00. It had the two gas tank option, bright trim package, 302 V8, and three on the tree! No back seat, but it did have the swing away spare tire carrier. This one you would need a tetanus shot just looking at it .
