Perhaps the Jeepster we featured recently was a little rich for you at $52,000? (it was for me) This unusually configured 1968 pickup Jeepster Commando (have you ever seen one?) is for sale here on eBay and comes with a buy it now of only $5,750. If you’re calculating, that’s only 11% of the other car’s price! Thanks to Barn Finds reader Matt W. for this great find! It’s located in C0lorado Springs, Colorado.
To be honest, I don’t remember ever seeing a Jeepster with this type of pickup cab, although a quick check on the internet shows that’s ignorance on my part, not true rarity. There are a few rusty areas — the seller tells us it is”almost completely rust free, the only rust through on the entire Jeep is a 3″ long strip on each rear wheel tub where they meet the bed floor.” That doesn’t sound too bad, but there’s a lot of gray primer there for that to be the only rust through.
I really don’t care for the front bumper, which I’m 99.9% sure wasn’t on this truck when it left the dealership. However, I do like the plain steel rims and generally solid appearance.
Moving to the inside, I was surprised to see it in as solid shape as it is. Sure, the seats need to be redone, but that’s not too bad a job. I found kits here at JeepsterMan. This is one vehicle where a coat of paint would go a long way!
Like the other Jeepster, this one also features the Buick-sourced “Dauntless” V6. It looks nice and stock under here, and we’re told both the engine and the three speed manual transmission work well–which is the way it should be after a claimed 58,000 original miles. All in all, this Jeepster looks like a good and usable vehicle to me — how about you?
Very cool, but gone…not quite Shriner “parade ready”.
Was just gonna say “yeah I have seen one”,at a
parade a few years back…,being driven buy a Shriner…LOL
These are scarce-fun-and cool.
Pretty sure I’m driving this in GTA5, lol
Auction over – This one went fast for a very fair price for the half cab pickup version.
Easily worth the money.
Fun looking rig, although if she was mine I would put the hubcaps on the drivers side so I could see them. And while you are at The Jeepstermans get some leaf springs.
wow, way too cheap. i grabbed the phone as soon as i saw it this morning to offer him $6k plus shipping to l.a. i would have put in a grand national v6, disc brakes, paint and sold it for $24k
Where’s Johnny Quest & Hadji in this photo ! Lol.
Sorry, but I’ve always thought the Commando, especially the half cab pickup, look FUGLY! This is what you get when a Gremlin and a CJ have a baby.
I remember a few half-cabs around town when I was a teen. I preferred the full top but the half-cab looks OK to me. Always reminds me of a road service truck when I see them.
I never had a Jeepster but I had a 67 or 68 CJ5 with the Dauntless engine. That engine was a good match for a Jeep.
wife’s uncle had one (still in the family – think his son has it now). Had to ride in the back once up to their cabin. Pretty sure I left my kidneys on the first bump…
I first thought this was a small aircraft tow truck. But I guess it could be a Parade float tow vehicle. I have seen a few of these. It helps if your 5′ 10″ or less tall to drive one. LOL
