Factory Colors and Stripes: 1974 Jeep Renegade

Usually, trucks that are equipped with snow plows since new exhibit unfortunate signs of being used in the worst conditions a car or truck can endure. Despite having the snow plow attachment bolted on early in its life, this 1974 Jeep Renegade has survived with low mileage and a mostly rust-free body. Find it here on eBay with an $8,500 Buy-It-Now.

Mileage is low at under 35,000, and the seller notes the purple paint and decal kit are original. The Jeep comes from a farm in Pennsylvania and other than a replacement top, it remains completely original. The body does appear quite sound, and the frame is solid with just some rust blemishes on the tub as the only thing approaching corrosion to complain about.

The seats aren’t perfect but still quite nice for their age; given the dash presents well with stickers and labels for various switches still in place, I have to believe the Jeep was parked inside when not in use. The carpeting even looks decent, a quality I wouldn’t count on in a Jeep of any vintage or condition. The factory manual transmission is paired to a 304 V8 mill.

The purple paintjob is an unusual one for a factory color, but it does extend all the way through the engine bay. The engine itself appears quite clean, but the seller doesn’t detail any major maintenance items that have been addressed in the past few years. The top was replaced 10 years ago, and that appears to be the biggest investment of recent memory! I can’t recall seeing a purple Jeep from the factory; how many can even be left?

My grandfather had a 1973 cj5 with a 304 with less than 30,000 miles. It also had a plow, but up here in Vermont it had it fair share of rust. It was fun until the frame broke.

Bummer about the rot in the tub but still about as cool of a CJ as you”ll find and from that 72-75 sweet spot. Hope someone ditches the plow and puts this one back right.

The purple color (which I wanted all my life) is called Renegade Plum. I have it’s twin. Great little Jeep.
