EXCLUSIVE: 1950 MG TD

For the past 29 years, this MG TD has been parked in a reader’s storage unit. Terry has owned it since 1963. It had been fully refurbished at the time of purchase, but after 26 years of use plus its time in storage, it’s going to need to be restored. If you’ve been on the hunt for a classic British roadster project though, you will definitely want to take a look at this one! It’s currently located in Woodstock, Illinois with a $6,000 asking price. You can contact Terry to make an offer or ask questions via the form below.

Asking Price: $6,000
Location: Woodstock, Illinois
Mileage: unknown
Title Status: Missing
VIN: 874-49109

Seller’s Description: It has been in storage since 1989. I have owned it since 1963. It was restored mechanically and cosmetically at that time.

Body Condition: The body has no dents. It needs to be stripped and painted. The body has no rust through spots on it. The canvas hood needs to be replaced. I believe the side-curtains are okay. The dashboard was replaced. The bumpers are original. The seat has rotted away and needs to be replaced or reupholstered. The windshield is okay and the bonnet is okay.

Mechanical Condition: The engine was okay when it was put in storage –not seized-up. The radiator mounts have rusted away though. The transmission was functional. The brakes would probably need to be gone through. It would require new tires as well. A new wiring harness was installed in 1963. The gauges are original. The windshield wipers used to work. I would use it for parts or get a qualified mechanic to go through it. I don’t know about the muffler.

Depending on the condition of the frame and body, this car could prove to be a great project. Or if you happen to have a solid TD chassis sitting around that needs everything else to go with it, this car might have what you need. If you have any questions for Terry, be sure to message him or leave your questions in the comments. So, are you up to restoring this classic Brit?

“The body has no rust through spots on it.” In other words, it’s rusty.

I just don’t understand why someone would just park a nice car in a damp garage and abandon it for 29 years. Look at the sad condition it is in. What an utter waste. Sell the car or give it away rather than destroy it. Automotive Sacrilege.

What kind of person takes a restored car and slowly, knowingly proceeds to destroy it and their investmeny?

I have a 1950 TD which I bought out of a basement where it had been parked for 45 years and it faired much better than this poor car but still needed lots of work to be driveable.

Storage didn’t do this car any favors…and I’m an MG guy. Best part of the car for me is the checkerboard grille and aftermarket steering wheel.
