After taking a peek at this 1970 Dodge Charger R/T, some potential buyers might become deterred quickly by the amount of visible body rust here, and there’s certainly plenty. However, this one appears quite a bit more solid down below, so the foundation may remain sturdy enough to build on. Even with a decent platform, there’s still a lot of work to be done here, as in a complete restoration. It’s a plus that many of the parts can still be had, but just know up front that you’ll be buying a large number of them. If you’ve got the skills needed to save this needy B-Body, this once mighty Mopar is located in Las Vegas, Nevada, and can be spotted here on eBay. So far, 35 bids have taken the price up to $17,500.

It’s obvious, but the seller is forthcoming about informing us that a considerable amount of the exterior sheet metal will need to be replaced. Probably the best news outside is that this one didn’t come with a vinyl top, and the roof is stated as good. One thing to note is the Vehicle Identification Number listed in the item specifics, which starts with the letter Z. It should be an X instead for a Charger, and that’s an easy mistake to make, as the last time I checked these two characters were right next to each other on a keyboard. Fortunately, a photo of the VIN is included.

The factory 440 is still under the hood, and although there’s no information on whether or not it will spin, the fact that it’s the original component should add some desirability here. Ditto on the transmission, with another positive being that it’s a 4-speed manual, so this one rolled off the St. Louis assembly line with a great performance combo. Not as favorable is that the rear end has been swapped, with the 3.54 Dana gone and an 8 3/4 with 3.23 gears now in its place.

A few shots from below are also provided, which seem to back up the owner’s claim that most of the main parts are good, including the front and rear rails. The torsion support and firewall are also listed as solid, so hopefully, the steel that will require most of the attention will be the exterior panels.

Something that surprised me a little to find inside was the simulated woodgrain dash, and I wondered at first if this was one of those rare R/T SE models. The radio is missing, and unfortunately, so is the fender tag. However, it’s good to see that this one is equipped with a pistol grip shifter and a Tic Toc Tach, and it appears that the rest of the gauges are still present. I can’t imagine how much this project would cost to complete if someone were hired to do it, but if you can DIY, it might be feasible. Is this 1970 Dodge Charger R/T one you’d be interested in restoring?

Chris Birdsong from the “Junkerup” YouTube channel is selling this one; he did an in-depth video on it recently if anyone’s interested in the car.
The day would not be complete without another Barn Finds rusty Mopar with half its engine missing and needing a total redo. Still, lots of people with lots of money seem to want one. More power (if they can get the engine running) to them!
Heh first I saw the top picture I said to myslef “It looks like straight from junkerup” hahaha
You know, I wasn’t even going to look, but like trying not to look at a welder, I just had to see what THIS heap is going for, and the foolishness continues. Someone said, “what the market will bear”,,WHAT MARKET? A market of fools? Are people actually selling these hulks, or placed here merely for our entertainment. Well, it IS Vegas, home of the bizarre, Angel will agree, and acceptable for some, I can’t say ill, because I did things my old man thought were off base, but it’s the magnitude I just can’t accept. I had one of these, a guy owed me money, and I took the Charger, a 383/4 barrel, 4 speed, it was a crappy car, even with the IH Loadstar shifter,( pistol grip) and a $500 beater, it was. It would blow the mufflers off with every power shift. Something I would never pay much more for, yet,,here we are. Fascinating phenomenon bound to fizzle. Quick, sell it now Louie, for it will be the last time for this stuff.
Howard you are correct, it is just about the last time for “this stuff”…not much left. What remains will be gone in the next couple of years. At that time you will see prices soar even more…this will be looked back on as a steal….get ready to pay well over 6 figures on the average if you want one
I agree with Howard’s comment’s all the way about this heap and the price.
Totally agree. I bought a beautiful R4 red 69′ Charger R/T for $13k back in 1990 and I see what this rusted hulk is at right now I literally feel like we’re living in clown world. And don’t give me the whole, “Well, that’s just the market” BS. People have lost their friggin minds.
Sure…Continue believing that thought process..people are paying 6 percent interest on a home loan, thinking interest rates will fall..reality check ..Not going to happen..as the prices on rarity have ALWAYS controlled the market place.
I have a ’70 Charger R/T, and the woodgrain dash is standard.
“Don’t lowball me, man, I know what I got”!
:)
Some dreamer will throw the money down and find out its the movie Friday the thirteenth
At least it has its numbers matching engine block. Most of these rusted out R/Ts have lost their original engine many moons ago.
@ Not Again
If you don’t think this current overpriced housing market is way overdue for a crash, and is going to get one, then maybe you need a reality check.
