Fastback Project! 1967 Ford Mustang GTA

The seller of this 1967 Ford Mustang says it is a “25-foot car” meaning it looks decent from about 25 feet. At first glance, I would say they are right. This car is a GTA (Grand Touring Automatic) Fastback that was born with a 289, power steering and brakes, tinted glass, fog lights, and styled steel wheels. It can be found here on eBay with a buy-it-now price of $22,500. Located in Bedford, Virginia, the car also includes a deluxe Marti Report, which is a bonus for any Ford owner. Have a closer look at this pony and see what you think.

The interior definitely needs a little bit of help. You can tell the passenger door panel is missing. The dash looks pretty rough and the back seat is missing…replaced with a speaker panel that looks circa the 1980s. Overall, this looks like a complete refurbish/replacement type of interior to me. How about you?

While the engine appears to still be topped with the original 289 air cleaner, the seller says the original 289 was locked up after sitting for several years. It has been replaced with a 302 that ran well when it was pulled from a donor car. The ad says they have “bolted some of the old parts onto this engine to make it more complete” but unfortunately it isn’t ready-to-run yet.

The car was originally Nightmist Blue but has been repainted to a medium Acapulco Blue. The seller says there appears to be some body filler in the quarter panels and the car “will need typical rust repairs” to the floor pans, quarters and trunk floor. Hopefully, the rust isn’t too bad, but the buyer probably won’t know until it is thoroughly inspected. Overall, it seems like a decent project. What do you think?

Cool ride, but $22.5k for the condition it’s in…? Dream on…

Didn’t see a roof console or floor console. Look’s like interior wasn’t finished. Other than that, nice project car. But I would paint it the stock color again.

It probably never had a console
That’s the basic auto floor shift that came in mustangs
Agree with you on the color

So hoping that the Covid 19 drives prices down on these Barn Findes so the average Joe can afford to buy one like in the old days. 22.5 for this is outrageous $4500.00 max. No matching numbers, parts switched and needs complete overhaul.

$4500.00? Um no, that car is worth more than 4500 bucks but I would put it in the 15K range because of the new floor pans needed. It is a GT and that’s a big plus. For about 40K, you could have a nice 67 GT with a 289 and an automatic. If I bought the car, I have a nice 351W waiting on it and since I am an expert at installing AC, I’d put the AC in it. JMHO

Now your talking, AC. I too must have the small comfort of life when I’m driving then the price is up to the eye of the beholder. He who loves it must pay for it and the disliker shell pass.

Shame about the 289. If it was a #s matching GTA, I could see someone paying $22.5k. As is, no way Jose!!

There’s a lot of work there but the back seat isn’t missing. It’s just folded down.

I bet it don’t run to good with no ignition wires! If you look close, the metal is getting thinned out by rust, needs a complete restoration. Very deceiving car. Unfortunately cars like this are now not worth the cost to “do it right” Buy a car that is in better shape but still before clicking any “buy it now” button, have a PPI done, as that 1000-1500$ is worth it. Or get on a forum and see if you can find someone that is knowledgeable near by.

25 foot car in this case at least, that’s how far behind it would be in the rear view mirror of any SS 350 Camaro owner. Hardy har har,…..got to crack jokes in these odd times of fear and uncertainty.
Never understood Fords use of the GT designation on bread and butter cars like this. It’s just me.
