Field Find: 1958 Peerless GT

It seems that despite its low survival rate, the remaining Peerless GT coupes pop up quite frequently. An early example has appeared for sale, and it is quite a project. Believed to have been manufactured halfway through the first phase of production, this 1958 example is here on eBay with bidding at $535 and the reserve unmet.

Early Peerless cars used Triumph-sourced mechanicals, which makes some aspects of the restoration less daunting. The example here is missing its original engine and driveshaft, but retains its carbs, intake manifold and exhaust. Although it lacks the original transmission, the seller is including a working unit from a ’61 TR3A.

After sitting in a field for years, the car suffers from significant frame rot. The grill and bumpers have gone AWOL, but a spare trunk lid is included. The fiberglass body is said to be in sound condition, and all glass and gauges are present. Seats will come with the car, but the interior is in need of some serious help.

Amazingly, this car is far more complete than the example we featured a few weeks ago, which sold for just under $5,000 on eBay. If a restorer is brave enough to tackle a car like that (or salvage it for its remaining parts), then this Peerless presents plenty of opportunities for revival. Then again, given how many keep coming to market, it may be worth holding out for one in better shape.

Between both phases of the GT, 325 were made. Far fewer survive today, but its Baby Aston looks make it a stunner worth saving. As the seller notes, this project isn’t for the faint of heart – would you tackle it?

All it needs is a frame, a body, running gear and an interior; duck soup!

    but honestly,

    the sky is the limit.
Just the asking price is already asking for a full commitment. (Buy it now of $5500)
It will only take TIME AND MONEY to get this together, and to find somebody with those prerequisites is like finding a needle in a haystack.
And that some-one needs to really like Peerless cars,
    That’s all.
