Field of Dreams? 18 Ford Mustangs

Disclosure: This site may receive compensation from some link clicks and purchases.

It’s one thing to be a car collector, it’s another to corner the market on a particular automobile. The seller here certainly was trying hard, having collected 18 Ford Mustangs over the years. They’re all from 1965 to 1968. The group appears to have been sitting outside near Marrero, Louisiana for quite some time. These are all hardtops (no convertibles or fastbacks), none of them run, and you’ll have to assume that Mother Nature has not been kind. Available here on craigslist, they range from $2,000 to $5,000 depending on which one strikes your fancy. Tip Master T.J. strikes again!

The seller has only provided one photo and tells us the colors run the gamut as do engines and transmissions. The good news is that they all have titles and parts for restoration projects are not hard to come by. Included in the bunch is a 1966 Spring Special, but no details are provided. Everyone remembers how the Mustang took the market by storm in 1964 (the so-called 1964 ½ which was really a 1965). But as the competition came along and market tastes changed, the fortunes of the Mustang went downhill quickly. Here’s a chart of the production numbers for all first-gen Mustangs through 1973. You could see that the Mustang II was coming.

I’m of the opinion there are more first generation Mustangs “out there” than any other car. “Out there” meaning in barns, in fields, in carports, you get the idea. I found one just last week, while scoping out some property in rural Ohio with a friend. It was a 68 coupe, on a trailer where it looked like it had been for a long time, with bad rust… in other words, not a restoration or even a parts candidate.

These in Louisiana may or may not be good restoration candidates, given my opinion there are tons of them “out there.” Plus, they are probably not the treasure trove the collector thought they would be, given they are coupes.

Good incorporation of a graph Russ.

Nearly 18 Mustangs and no Fastbacks? Back when he collected these, they weren’t that hard to come by.

Definitely inspect in person 2 car carriers would get all 18 to my house plenty of room to store them outside but I don’t need the extra mice in the back yard but might be fun to some on the road

I doubt very much if you can buy any First gen. Mustang for $112 , coupe or otherwise . Some of these could be in really nice shape for a car pushing 60 years old .

I would be willing to bet that these were all collected after Katrina and many were under water. Buyer beware!
