The GMC Suburban is one of those rigs that is seemingly treated like a member of the family in many instances. Whether it just becomes like a piece of furniture or because the owners genuinely love the rig, the Suburban often turns up as a “longtime family-owned” specimen when put up for sale. This 1991 model is a final-year example that is exactly that kind of truck, with documented adult ownership and residence in the Pacific Northwest. A squarebody anything is a hot ticket these days, with appreciation for both the era in which these trucks were made and due to them being ridiculously capable out of the box. K5 Blazers have been un-touchable below $20,000 for a good one for ages, and the Suburban is catching up in that regards. Obviously, it’s a bit less off-road oriented out of the box, but that’s not necessarily why you buy one of these: it’s a truly usable SUV with a ton of space and a reliable 5.7L V8 under the hood.
The interior of this truck is one of the high points, in addition to the relatively spotless exterior in fire-engine red, a shade of paint we don’t often associate with a stodgy Suburban. The tan cloth is very clean and the corresponding dash is uncracked. The carpets show virtually no soiling and overall, you cannot fault the presentation of this very clean, driver-grade (if not survivor grade) truck. The current bid price is a bit surprising considering how good it looks in photos.
Other features worth calling out include the reclining rear seats, tow package, locking hubs, and what is believed to be original paint. The seller notes the 5.7L provides good power and that the heavy-duty 4-speed automatic transmission does its duty without issue. The Suburban is the rare modern classic you can use like a daily with some promise of steady appreciation locked into whatever the purchase price ends up being.

Always a favorite over the 19-years of production. These should be TBI instead of carb. Responsive low end torque and a little better mileage than the 454.
Not true, when these units are loaded to the max GCVWR The 454 will deliver better fuel economy due to a better power to weight ratio. I made that mistake when special ordering an HD GMC of this era and chose the 350. At maximum loads I was only getting 5.5 mpg and a friend with a 454 was getting 9-10 mpg!
Had 350 411 posi 4×4 8600 gvw pulling 4horse trailer loaded plus all the tack and people got 10 to 12 mpg . Maybe try releasing the parking brake ?
My ‘89 1500, with 5.7 couldn’t take towing a 4,000 trailer. Small rearend, and trans failed. Otherwise, fine wagon. I used to squawk about filling the 30 gallon tank for $20.00!

Had one… Buyer beware. Absolutely worthless. Anything over scrap price and you paid way too much.
Gut it and concert it to a camper. Fuel injection and CDI ignition conversion obviously. Only way to justify this relic.
