Five-0 Interceptor! 2009 Ford Crown Victoria

I’ve always wanted to own one of these! A Ford Crown Victoria Police Interceptor, such as this 2009 example, makes a statement just sitting still. While not a particularly stylish ride, they are unique in a last-man-standing sort of way, and as durable as the day is long. Can I be convinced? Well, let’s take a gander at this exceptionally clean 122 K-mile example and see what this Crown Vic is all about. This big Ford is located in Corning, New York, and is available here on eBay for a BIN price of $10,900.

As a matter of clarity, this is not the P71 Police Interceptor that BF covered last December. That car was finished in a different hue and had fewer miles, though it was offered by the same seller. Based on Ford’s “Panther” platform, our subject Crown Victoria is a member of the second generation produced from model year 1998 and continuing on through 2011. Total 2009 sales were about 33K units, though I haven’t been able to determine how many were P71 Interceptors. As for this featured car, it was in service in Wilkes County, North Carolina, and has experienced 973 idle hours.

Finished in Smokestone Metallic (Code HG), this sixteen-year-old prowler still looks great. Super sleuths will note the chrome-plated plastic grille usurping the place where the original black Interceptor grille once led the way. The seller states that it’s a new piece. The chrome steel wheel center caps are new, too. It’s a safe bet this Crown Vic hasn’t engaged in any perp pursuit via ramming – it’s just too straight. It’s also good to see that the lower corners of the rear bumper cover aren’t torn, as is so often the case with this vintage of the Panther.

The interior, other than the fabric upholstered bucket seats, looks like any other 2009 Crown Victoria – any essence of copness appears to have been removed. The environment is bright and clean, and there’s no indication of wear. The backseat is a standard Ford piece, not a hard plastic shell as is often found, for good reason, in the back of many police units. The seller mentions that the rear doors are operable from the interior.

Pursuit power is provided by a 250 net HP, 4.6-liter V8 engine driving a four-speed automatic transmission. No comment is made regarding operating prowess, but the seller does mention, “FRESH MOTORCRAFT SYNTHETIC OIL AND FILTER, NEW MOTORCRAFT FUEL FILTER, NEW AIR FILTER, NEW MOTORCRAFT TENSIONER PULLEY, NEW SERPENTINE BELT, and a NEW BATTERY.” That is one clean engine compartment!

Well, yes, I like it, and this CV, other than the typical high mileage, would be one to consider on account of its overall excellent condition. Let’s face it, we’re not likely to see a car like this produced again. But, as it goes with so many things, I’m over my desire to own a former police car, but how about you? Any interest?

Just the facts, ( he never said “ma’am”) This is the car Gannon and Friday would have had, had the series continued. It also made regular runs to Winchells Donuts, “when a new batch comes up, call it in”, or for the detective that took the pictures of the outlines on the pavement, after all settled down, but as mentioned, no real drama. That 2nd pic stirs up some ghosts for me, the definition of paranoia, but the jokes on those cop wannabes that buy an old Crown Vic, hello, cops haven’t used these in years, although, I did see, in the latest L.A. riots, they did send in a Crown Vic, let them destroy that, the boss said. And I’m sorry, but what were the French using, Renault R5s for cop cars? 2CVs? I suppose no need for a Crown Vic in Paris, huh.

I’d love to have one of these as well someday – particularly from this seller. Watched a video on his collection a few years ago – very impressive!

I drove those Crown Vics for years as a police officer, they were the best police car, missed them when they phased them out for SUV’s… not the same. They also ran like scared rabbits, unless it was snowing…. Good looking car.

Would make one yell of an Uber car wouldn’t it. And before you say this car would be too old, Uber does allow foreigners to use much older cars here in Florida for fear of being sued for discrimination by that entity. The Hatian who robbed me was driving a run down ’99 Jeep SUV of some kind. The back seat had a lap bar on it that locks you in your place. The rear door handles were removed and the driver had control over them from the front. When I got to work, the driver demanded that I tip her or she would call the police on me for not doing so. She also would not let me leave the car until I ponied up. Since I was going to be late for work if I didn’t tip her, I was forced to give her my last $20 so that I could get out of the car and get away from her. After she left, I called the police and made a report on the matter. Later on, I found out the DA wouldn’t prosecute her for fear that gangs of Hatians would burn the city
to the ground–at least that’s what the police department told me when I called for a follow up report. And that’s why I don’t use Uber.

    slightly restored? heavily?
Good car for interstate travel. Sales?
trips? vacations? Not my choice for a daily.
Some small wagons (105, 6 inch WB), mini p/u are.
I like “the fleet look” tho. Nota “5 oh” tho (unless U refer
to ‘da cops’). The 5 oh precedes this (modular) motor 1 gen

I have two Panthers. Best cars ever made. Never selling them. Idling is bad for an engine and this has nearly 1,000 idle hours. However, most police departmemts I worked with maintained them. Fuel filter changes very important and its an easy 10 min job tops. Change them.on my cars every 10,000 miles.

These are nice cars and will last forever when maintained as this one has. My daily driver is a 08 Mercury Grand Marquis which is almost the same car. In my opinion I believe the Grand Marquis is a bit nicer. Its like driving your sofa yes it’s that comfortable. Just added Magnaflow dual exhaust to mine not loud and nice deep tone. This Crown Vic will make a nice and long lasting car for someone. To the seller GLWTS and to the buyer drive it and enjoy it.

1,000 idle hours don’t matter. I drove them for almost 20 years and have seen them with over 12,000 idle hours. The 4.6 is an indestructible motor if maintained properly. Ford literature specifies one (1) idle hour is the equivalent of 33 driven miles.

And yes, I own an ‘08 – bought in ‘18 – that had less than 9,000 miles and 22 idle hours when I picked her up. BTW…Federal agency vehicles are the best when it comes to retired LE cars.

I guess if your going to buy a Crown Vic form EBay, you might as well buy it from a seller named kenniscrownvics.

I prefer to call it extortion, but because of that, I’ll never use a ride share company again. Looking into getting one of those cabin cars. All they are is a mobility scooter 🛵 with a body on
top of it toit protect you from the weather. And these little devils have everything you would find on a regular car. You have headlights, tail lights, brake lights, turn signals, and windshield wipers as well. They also have air conditioning too! They don’t require a driver’s license or insurance to use them either. They can be used on any bike path or public sidewalk. The catch:
The price. Over $7K from your friendly neighborhood Wal Mart.
And as I said before Greg, the DAs. Office refused to prosecute
that Hatian woman for fear that it would cause a race riot here in Melbourne like the ones in Minneapolis/St. Paul in 2020. So now I’m out $20 and have severe trust issues when it comes to
firms like Uber and Lyft. Been like that since the summer of ’21.

Many of small town/poor counties still using these that were handed down from state entities. Crown Vics were always (even before the Panther body cars) a much better car than the Dodge Diplomat. I have never driven a Panther car, but lots of the LTD and Diplomat cars. A world of difference!

Is the asking price realistic? I drive a 2004 P71 with 85K miles. It is mechanically perfect but could use some paintwork. CarMax offered me $900. I declined.

Years ago I read an article about a company that would refurbish police Caprices and put them back in service. The article went on to say that police departments preferred the Caprice over the Crown Vic because the CV had a tendency to get airborne at a certain speed.

The Diplomats would lift the front end considerably after 115 mph. Go ahead and ask me how I know!

My father had several ( civilian version)
Of these Crown Vics. He then switched to the Mercury Marauders, I have no clue why an 87 year old man that was sight impaired as well as hearing impaired wanted or even bought a sedan that would travel at 110-120 mph all day long!
We ended up taking his license away and family would drive him where ever. EVERYONE IN THE FAMILY SAID THE SAME THING. THIS IS AN OLD PERSONS CAR BUT I WOULD NOT HAVE A PROBLEM OWNING ONE! SMOOTH, POWERFUL AND RELIABLE! I’M NOT SURE WHO THE MORON WAS AT FORD, LINCOLN-MERCURY THAT PULLED THE PLUG ON THIS CAR BUT NOT EVERYONE WANTS A SUV!

My wife had anm03 Gramd Marque. It was nice but not comfortable for me. I preferred the seats in.my F250 and still do. Hers always had a weird slip.now and again in the tranny. The plastic intake manifold cracked and I was done with it. It was bad in the snow and the fan for the AC died once. Other than that it was ok.
