Former Autocrosser: 1958 MGA 1500

1958-mga

This MGA was supposedly used for autocrossing a few owners back. It looks stock from the outside, but the seller states that the owner that raced it added tube shocks to the front. If you haven’t seen an MGA or B’s front suspension, they use Armstrong shocks rather than a conventional tube shock. From my experience, they work great, but I can see where a tube shock could be beneficial for racing. I’d like to see how they put it all together, but sadly the seller doesn’t offer any photos of the front suspension. This A has a mixture of other upgrades as well, so I’d recommend to inspecting this one in person before bidding. With bidding at $3k and no reserve, it might just be worth checking out! Find it here on eBay in Newark, Delaware. If you do take a look at it, let us know what you find!

    Hey Jamie, I think I finally found a TR-6 I can afford. ( in the background) :)

Autocrossing on old wire wheels could lead to some surprises.

I’ve vintage raced on wire wheels. In good condition a set I installed on a Jaguar based special are still in regular use. That’s a 150 mph car on the back straight of Elkart lake
My MGTD also uses wire wheels (from a MGA) that has been Vintage raced since 1975 and while a few spokes have loosened and needed replacement it’s an easy and cheap task (with a proper spoke wrench and knowledge)

I’m seeing more and more sellers making mention of an autocross history like it’s a value adder. A well documented race car sure, but autocross? Should we start upselling road tripping too?

The recessed grill is indicative of a 1961-62 MGA
