All car people have their stash: those places in garages, sheds, and lean-tos that hold automotive treasures for current and future projects. But what would you do if a former salvage yard for your favorite marque came up for sale? If you are a VW fan, this opportunity is available. Check out this former VW salvage yard for sale on Craigslist. It is located in Greeley, CO, and is ready for its next caretaker. Thank you to Henry Reining for sending in this tip!
Vintage car salvage yards, like drive-in movies, are another place disappearing from the American landscape. Even new car junkyards are becoming a relic of the past as government mandates continue to rain down. This is unfortunate, as people can gain so much knowledge from visiting these places and seeing our beloved automobiles from the inside out. They can also help the pocketbook when trying to find parts.
Volkswagen salvage yards are one of those unique places in Automobilia. Wolfsburg pumped out so many different features and options that many treasures can be found in these places. Due to the interchangeability of cars, valuable parts can be found on lesser-valued models so that choice pieces can be found with some diligent searching. Looking through the limited pictures from this ad is also a bit of a treasure hunt. We can see a few late-model water-cooled examples, but plenty of air-cooled variety exists. No split window buses seem to be present, but there are two bay window campers and loads of Beetles. The type 3 fastback looks decent, too. What do you see in these pictures?
A VW salvage yard may not be something you ever considered owning, but these opportunities don’t come along too often. As prices continue to climb and the supply of good quality parts continues to dwindle, this may be a chance to own something that could help not only your collection but also other VW owners. I hope someone with a healthy interest in preserving the good parts left in these cars can buy this and share it with others. Happy New Year to all the Barn Finds readers out there. May blessings abound in your lives, both personally and in this great car-land we all enjoy!
“Nothing, I see NOTHING..!”
And besides no Things, no small windows, no panel trucks but it appears there’s just about everything else. A good size collection, it’d be a great way for someone to make a little extra cash.
Gotta wonder-how many have DMV titles?
Having just driven across the country, there was a place just off I 40 in New Mexico that had a line up of old 1940s Studebakers. It wasn’t a junkyard per se but about 15 cars, all Studi’s. Of course going 75 down the highway I couldn’t get a picture. This was around Albuquerque.
Later, either still in NM or TX there was a line up of Volkswagens. Maybe 10 to 20, all beetles, all 60s & 70s.
I even passed Cadillac Ranch in Amarillo & couldn’t stop for pics. Driving too fast I guess.
Just past a tractor junkyard in Virginia on 81
Keep these photos and take them to your next HOA meeting- “You think my front yard looks bad?”
“…for these are more easily acquired than gotten rid of.” Thoreau.
I would love another type 3….good this hoarde is far far away.
I think I see my old ’72 in there…
There was a lot in Van Nuys , CA , like this.. Nothing but VW’s. Row, after row of cars, doors, hoods. Engines.
Field of dreams.
Good riddance!!!
There is no mention of price. Not that I am a buyer but just curious. As a lover of all air cooled cars, and now my attention has turned from street rods ( price is the problem) to VW’s mostly Manx style dune buggies. I am just wondering why it is for sale, lack of sales, age, health issues. I am curious as said the price.
Greeley, Co. is hotspot of urban development.
Interstate I-25 runs from Wy. to New Mexico. The whole stretch is in the process of being ruined.
Is this your place Eugene Leffeil ?
Seems more than a little crazy to me. Let’s just say that someone is deranged enough to make this purchase, what do you think it would take to move all of these wrecks to another location? And that’s just “the tip of the iceberg”. There is absolutely nothing about this proposition that makes even a tiny bit of sense.
