From all accounts, Henry Ford could be a cantankerous individual who resisted change and believed that production of his beloved Model T could continue forever. For a number of years, he had vehemently resisted calls by his son, Edsel, to update or replace the Model T. Virtually right up until production ceased in May 1927, he believed that the Model T was the right car for the people. This 1926 Model T is an example of the car that he loved so much, and you will find it listed for sale here on Craigslist. It is located in Soddy Daisy, Tennessee, and is being offered for sale with a clean title. If you would like to own this classic, it can be yours for $7,500, and the owner may consider a trade.
This Roadster is by no means a trailer queen. The paintwork is quite rough and ready, but I think that’s why I like it. There is no doubt that it is in solid condition, and as a restoration project, it has a lot of potential. There are no obvious rust issues, and the body panels are all pretty straight. The owner drives it as it is, but there is no reason why it couldn’t be stripped and restored without a massive amount of effort.
The interior of the Roadster is really tidy, and there’s virtually nothing to do in here. The dash and instruments are complete, and the seat looks like it may have been recently reupholstered. The wheel is in good condition, as are the door trims. It really is a case of “dive in and drive away.”
Under the hood is really clean. The might little 177ci 4-cylinder engine looks nearly clean enough to eat off. The owner says that the car runs and drives well, and it is just a fun car to drive. The car is also fitted with new tires. This is not something to be sneezed at, as new tires for a Model T can cost anywhere between $150 and $200 each, depending on the brand.
It is doubtful whether the popularity of the Model T will ever diminish. The car has been out of production for more than 90 years, but it is still a popular car that is an iconic piece of American automotive design, engineering, and marketing. This one is a clean example that shows a lot of potential, and when you compare it with examples that are on the market at present, this one stacks up quite well.
What’s not to like except for the color and interior? Could be a good parade car with some work.
I have a lot of respect for such simple cars. This and the classic beetle.
And I believe this simpleness has a lot to do with their 15 million plus sales success.
When did someone decide for us that we needed more?
Like self folding murrors, self parking cars, self activated wipers and lights etc etc?
What about self driving cars, what on earth for?
That is why I never took to horse riding, it has a mind of its own – and look at what happen to horse sales …..
It would be nice if they fixed the choke knob to work as intended where it would adjust the main jet when turned and operate the choke when pulled and get rid of the extra wire under the dash.
