Future R/T Clone? 1969 Dodge Charger

With the second-generation Dodge Charger remaining one of the more sought-after offerings from the golden age of muscle cars, many crafty enthusiasts often seek an affordable base example they can turn into the high-performance machine of their dreams.  While this 1969 model here on eBay seems like a good candidate for an R/T clone or a Restomod, it also came with an uncommon factory color combination, and restoring it to the exact original specs isn’t a bad idea for this one either.  Whichever path you’re envisioning, this vintage B-Body is in Las Vegas, Nevada, with the current high bid still at a reasonable $8,800.

Thinking back to when this Charger was brand new, it must have been a beautiful car, as this one came with a white body, a black vinyl top, and a red interior.  The seller mentions that this is an unusual trio of colors, and I don’t recall seeing very many with this combination before, so in a way I’d kind of like to see this one stay true to its roots.  Unfortunately, rust has affected some of the sheet metal, so several body repairs will be required before this one’s ready to repaint.  Ultimately, it’ll be up to the buyer to decide whether to stick with the white and put the black material back on the roof, or choose something with a more exciting presentation, and perhaps even tack on some R/T badging.

The future owner will face the same predicament under the hood, as this one’s powered by a 318, the smallest V8 you could get in a Charger from this era.  While the seller reports that the small block is running, he doesn’t mention whether this is the original engine or if the transmission is still the factory automatic.  I’d be tempted to leave these intact if they’re the born-with components, as numbers-matching Mopars are also intriguing and frequently being thinned out of the herd.  However, it’s hard to blame someone for preferring big-block power, regardless of the mechanical origins here.

Although much of the interior is still red, the seats have been recovered, and they’ll probably need to be redone again, hopefully next time with the proper fabric.  A few of the pieces in here may clean up well enough to salvage, but some are cracked, and many show some type of wear.  With the number of parts that will need replacing in here, keeping the inside its original color may not be essential, unless you’re a stickler for purity.  This 1969 Dodge Charger seems to have several possibilities, and none are necessarily right or wrong, as it ultimately boils down to personal preference.  How do you see moving forward here?
