We can all appreciate a little honesty in advertising, and the seller of this 1972 Volkswagen Karmann Ghia isn’t pulling any punches with his lot. Noting that he’s not offended if you “..bring a garbage truck” to pick it up, there’s not much here worth rescuing if a whole convertible KG is on your mind. But if you see some trim and body panels you can use, it may actually be (seriously) worth a look. Find it here on eBay with bidding at $2.25.

So, there are a few body panels worth buying, some seats, wheels, hubcaps and a drivetrain. The seller understands if the shell is too cumbersome to drag home, and is including a total of three motors in the lot. Other parts noted as worth taking home include good glass, bumpers and trim. Frankly, it may be worth buying just to see what else the seller has kicking around based on the 911 in the background.

Honestly, with bidding as low as it is, having a shot at three engines is compelling. This is especially true if you have more than one air-cooled project taking up space, and you’re local to Northbrook, Illinois, where the seller is located. While the seller acknowledges that it’s sad to see a Karmann Ghia convertible end up this way, there was no chance of a mass-produced car like this returning to the road.

What’s ironic is that the very similar Porsche 356, were it to appear in similar condition, would create a bidding frenzy. Now, even I can admit that a car lacking an actual chassis would be a tough sell, but still – P-car prices mean a handful of motors and some trim would command a fair price. In this instance, just bring some pocket change and a forklift to take this parts stash home. Would any of our aircooled diehards bid on this lot, or is it just fit for the scrapyard?
