Golden Goat! 1967 Pontiac GTO Convertible

Stock-appearing down to the reproduction vintage battery, this 1967 Pontiac GTO convertible in Dresher, Pennsylvania looks crisp and ready to roll. Running and driving condition escaped the listing here on eBay, but the drop-top muscle car looks like a runner. The claimed original powertrain Pontiac accumulated its miles under the care of just three owners, the first from new until 2012! Receipts and Pontiac Historical Society (PHS) verification document the claims of 50,000 original mileage and numbers-matching engine, according to the description. At least seven bidders have shown interest so far, elevating the market value of this “Goat” beyond $35,000.

My folks loaded me into their silver ’67 GTO hardtop after the occasion of my birth, and while that may not justify buying one, it certainly leaves a soft spot in my heart for these sporty mid-sized beauties. Pontiac styling was hard to beat in the ’60s, and this Tempest-based GTO is no exception.

A replacement top from 1986 and paint from 1993 have held up well, and undercarriage pictures in the listing show nothing of grave concern. My parents’ GTO had the redline tires like this one.

The GTO’s 400 cid V8 was “freshened up” sometime this century and should make at least the original 335 HP (gross). A three-speed automatic transmission handles the gear changes. Emphasis on originality ruffles few feathers, and nearly everything looks stock here.

Power brakes and steering ease the driving effort, and the dual-gate Hurst shifter (standard on all three-speed automatic console cars according to GTOForum) adds interest. Check out the original sales brochure description of the shifter here at lov2xlr8. The black interior contrasts nicely with the gold paint. Always put the top up when parking on sunny days or the back of your legs will be braised “well done” by searing hot vinyl. Would you prefer air conditioning, or does the convertible top give all the fresh air this Pontiac needs?

Nice 67, but when people repaint, why do they not mask the grille area off on the hood scoop? The red (seemingly mandatory these days) 400 air cleaner has to go. Someone added the tach to the factory dash, as they were only available with the complete rally gauge setup. The Hurst Dual Gate shifter is standard equipment on an automatic console equipped car, the owner described it as rare. All in all, a nice car. Very close to as delivered condition, a couple minor things away from a very nice 67. I had a 67 convert also, 4 speed/AC car with a ton of options… another one that got away unfortunately. Hope the seller does well!

My question exactly. The inside of the scoop is black, not body color.

Not a bad price for this, I think it’s time for new coil springs after 55 years!

And it’s over at 42K plus some change. Did this have a reserve?

Reserve was not met. $42k would have been a steal!

I had a burgundy 67 GTO (in college) with 360 hp engine and a 4.11 rear end so car was pretty much wound out at 100 mph. Great car…wish I still had it today

This is the first ’67 Goat I have seen without 3-2’s, the complete set-up was available over the counter at your local Pontiac dealer.

Were 3-2’s offered on the 400 in 67? Maybe dealer installed?

Offered from the factory, no. GM enacted a ban on multiple carburation beginning with the 1967 models, except for the flagship, the Corvette. Pontiac and Oldsmobile both ended the 3 deuce option in 1966. But… there were quite a few installed at the dealer, you could buy them from the parts counter, or they were available from wrecks or other sources.

Ivory is the correct top color for this car.

My parents bought my older brother one to go off to college.
Mom ordered it Burgandy, white vinyl top and interior, PMD Wire wheel covers (I noticed the rims in the featured car look like ’66 instead of Ralleye II rims),red line wide ovals, power rear deck antenna, factory reverb unit for sound, rear speaker, dual gate shift ,HD Suspension ,Alternator ….fulk gauge package, ralleye clock but …dad insisted on the 400 2bbl to save on insurance which was sky high back t mobile en for under 30 drivers.
Good thing though the postraction great gearing and dual exhausts made the most of the 265ponies .still fast!!

Ted Rosato, that is a factory air cleaner, used on standard 4 barrel GTO’s from 1965 through 1967, the base is slightly different 4″ vs 5″ hole for the Quadrajet, but the upper chrome part is the same. The 1967 HO used an open element air cleaner design much like what you commonly see on Camaro’s.

I had a burgandy 67 GTO that had AT and PS. It also had AC.
Since it wasn’t exactly a race car, i thought the AC somewhat made it complete?
    Just my opinion!
