Han’s Worldwide Sightings: Holland to UK

Hans Mossy Find

We recently posted some sightings in Nevada from world traveler Han K. And today we have the privilege of featuring a few photos he took while traveling from Holland to the UK. Han loves to go on rallies and his mechanical skills have allowed him to ride along on some interesting ones as a member of the service crew. This particular sighting happened while following the Mercedes Owners Club in a rally prepped Ford Cortina Estate. The thick vegetation has nearly consumed these cars and while there isn’t much hope of any of these cars being saved, we are are glad this intriguing sight has been captured.

Mossy Cortina Estate

Han and his fellow service crew member wouldn’t have been too interested in this find if it hadn’t been for the Ford Cortina Estate they spotted. It is similar to the rally prepped Cortina they were in, although this one has more moss and rust!

Hans Forst Finds

Holland to UK sighting

There are some interesting gems hiding in this forest, but getting any of them out is going to involve a chainsaw and some heavy equipment. Seeing this gives us a new appreciation for our relatively dry western climate. Be sure to check out the rest of Han’s photos below. Thanks Han for sharing them with us!

Can anyone identify the blue mini-bus transporter in these pics?

These cars have the kind of ‘patina’ that you can scrape off with a putty knife.

Dolphin, where is the surface you are going to scrape? The rust has really eaten these gems.
Carefully check the boots/trunks and underneath. Today is Jimmy Hoffa’s 100th birthday and he may be part of the patina.

Found this junkyard not far from Donington racetrack in South West England, also we visited the McLaren F1 factory and several private car/ automobilia museums, a Jaguar restoration specialist and more. As a bonus some friends in the Jensen Owners club came to see us and I was allowed to take a Jensen C-V8 Hill Climb race car for a long spin. We sure had a week of fun!

The top feature has in it (left to right, top to bottom): Commer van, Rover P5B, Ford 100E, white car that looks like a Humber to me (possibly a super snipe?) Nearest the camera is possibly a Austin A35 (the ornament at the front could well be a “Flying A” Middle photo (blue estate) is a 1965 Ford Cortina Estate. Blue pickup is an Austin A55 pickup. behind it there is a ford capri (Mark 2 or 3) parked in front of a Rootes coupe (possibly a Singer?). The Red van is a Thames Trader The cars behind the tyre stacks appear to be early Rover P6’s. Some rare tin there that may yield some useful trim or parts, maybe the glass, but all are beyond ever being put on the road again.

Well done on identifying so many of these cars. I agree, these are probably well past their expiration date when it comes to getting them back on the road, but hopefully someone will at least save some of the parts. We talk a lot about how the old salvage yards are slowly disappearing, but this is a case where the cars aren’t being removed from the environment, they are slowly being consumed by it! I wouldn’t mind roaming through them, just for the photographic and art factor, it certainly isn’t something you see everyday.

Looks like they have been growing there for a number of years, i remember buying and old Ford Popular that had sat under trees like these ones, i attached a tow rope to the underneath of it and proceeded to tow it and finished up with two halves.

Looks like a futuristic post apocalyptic scene from a movie.
