The Monte Carlo was Chevrolet’s first foray into the lucrative personal luxury car segment in 1970, joining the Pontiac Grand Prix in that space. It was produced thru 1988, then took some time off, and later came back during 1995-2007. The seller’s car may have an interesting story, but we’re not told much of it. Supposedly it lived in a hay loft for 23 years and those visuals would be great to see if we had them. Assuming all the hay has been plucked out, this Chevy is available from Utica, New York, and here on craigslist for $6,300. Kudos for the tip, Mitchell G.!

With some visual cues from the Chevelle Malibu, the Monte Carlo was based on the “A-Special” platform of the Grand Prix. That would apply for the first three years until all of GM’s intermediates went to the Colonnade approach. As luck would have it, there was a labor strike at the plant where most Monte Carlos were to be built, so first-year sales fell a bit short of expectations, but still solid at 159,000 copies (the budget was for 185,000).

There was a variety of V8 engines available in the Monte Carlo, but we don’t know which one this Chevy has. A safe assumption would be the basic 350 cubic-inch powerplant that produced 250 hp with a 2-barrel carburetor. A TH-350 automatic transmission would also be logical. The seller says this car does run and drive after its extended hibernation, but a tune-up will be needed at a minimum.

The seller does mention that this Monte Carlo was originally from Pennsylvania, but we don’t know if or why that’s important. We’d like to see more photos and get some more details. While the body may be good, the black paint could stand some detailing before you decide to do a repaint. What kind of shape is the interior? No idea. Did any of the other dwellers of the hay loft do any chewing on this machine? And the mileage provided is a plug figure, so it could easily be six figures. What’s your take on this one?
