Hidden Car Collection: Muscle Cars and More!

There are a few bone-dry cars for sale behind a fence in Costa Mesa, California. The ad doesn’t contain any information regarding the history of these cars or how they came into this collection, but there may be a diamond in the rough among them. They can be found here on Craigslist with asking prices ranging from $1,200 to $10,000. Check them out and see what you think. Thanks to Barn Finds reader Keith for the tip on these cars.

There are a couple cars that stand out in this collection. The red car with the smashed hood is a 1970 Mustang Mach1 rally car. Featuring a 351 Cleveland, the engine is said to have matching numbers and also the original 4-speed transmission. The asking price for this pony is $8,000 O.B.O

The other red car is a 1968 Chevelle Super Sport. It has a 396 cubic inch big block and like the Mustang, is said to be numbers matching. It also has a built 454 c.i.d. in the car right now. The asking price on the Chevelle is $10,000!

The convertible is a 1964 Cadillac Eldorado. There are two photos in the ad highlighting this Cadillac and it looks like it may still be salvageable.  Like the Chevelle, this car has a five-figure asking price of $10,000!

The rest of the collection includes a couple later model Cadillacs and a Pontiac TransAm. Again, there aren’t too many details in the ad. At least the seller has attached some pricing to the cars, even if they may seem like a stretch. Do you think the asking prices are within reason?

If I were within a few hours drive of this place I would go check out that T/A.

I agree the T/A just might be worth a look and maybe the Chevelle.

Some years back this would be called a junk yard instead of a collection.

I wish I would have known that abused unwanted cars were going to be worth their weight in gold.

I would have bought a whole lot more $50.00 cars when I had the chance.

i guess if a guy is too lazy to part out and/or crush a bunch of forgotten old cars he may be, in time, rewarded with them being worth about 5% of their holding cost for 25-30 years.

i do dig the Chevelle too

I always believe a hidden selling point of vehicles like this is the lack of rust (if they are Cali cars) and transportation costs if you are relatively nearby. This can translate into savings of a couple thousand on inop. cars like this. An added plus might be the ability to visit and scrounge all the parts for the cars that may have been removed along the way.

The Mustang would be my pick, but not because how exactly does that happen? The “matching numbers” Chevelle with the incorrect motor is cool too. Seller needs to put down the crack pipe.

That Mustang could have some value, depending on which superhero punched it. Is there documentation?

Damn but the term muscle cars has become one of most abused terms in automotive history.
Not all cars from mid 1960s to 1980 were packing muscles.
A boat of a station wagon packing a smogged out bigblock no matter the tranny was a barge, and most of your so called pony autos were 6 bangers or entry level V8,s and not much more muscular than the kid down the roads mini bike powered by a Briggs and Straton lawnmower engine.
The same applies to midsized Ford, Chev and Mopar autos with the largest size engines being around 350 cubes with slushbox tranny and smallest. rear ends.
The mid to lates 7ps’ into 1980 pony or old nameplate mid sizred were about as muscular as a one legged Ethiopian
    chicken.
This muscle car mustang even with its much vaunted 351 Cleveland was fast but not terribly muscular.
This remnant is no more than an early Stang on steroids fats , and whose muscular body now sagging everywhere and falling into decay.
No more than an overpriced parts car that without a damn good and costly restore by professionals , will still get its butt kicked my many newer common 3-4 litre family 4 dr station wagons.
For parts I see damn little that I cannot purchace in like or brand new condition.
Even its vaunted 351 in most assuredly in need of a rebuild into todays low compression version means even less true muscles than originally
