How’s this for a hot rodder’s dream? Beautiful original patina on this 1964 F-100. For sale here on craigslist in Billings, Montana for the tidy sum of $700. Why only $700 you ask? This truck is sans engine and transmission. Can you say “blank slate?”
Since there’s no engine in this truck, the nose sits fairly high. This leaves little effort to imagine it transformed into a gasser style hot rod. I can see wide slicks out back with skinny front tires to bump the nose left and right as it screams down the quarter mile. Maybe a scoop sticking out of the hood that is attached to a blown FE big block?
The interior looks very good for a truck of this age. If that’s the original seat, it hasn’t seen much hard use. Besides the shifter knob missing, not much effort needed to make this ready to drive.
The engine bay is fairly clean and ready for whatever power plant you can dream up. It would probably be best to remove all the wiring and start fresh with a new harness. If you’re going to race it, you could get a minimal circuit harness and wire it for ignition, fans, gauges, etc. Forget about lights, radio and any other creature comforts. Keep it simple with big power and a rock solid drive train then have some fun a quarter mile at a time!
Gassers are getting played out. Most won’t go anywhere near a race track unless there is a show in the parking lot. I go to 40+ Wednesday nights and weekend bracket races a year, I can’t remember the last time I saw a “gasser” style car make a pass.
I could see someone shortening the bed and frame.

leave that paint/body as is . 5.9 Cummins or 7.3 turbo swap would be cool
cummins would be heavy
I had a 64 ford with the engine blown in the mid eighties and a 67 furry that was totaled, so, I did what seemed natural. I put the 383 and torqueflight into the ford truck. Badass truck, even better when I upgraded to a 440.
I miss that truck.
The price is right if your looking for a parts truck. By the looks of the engine bay, someone already had there fun with a motor/trans swap. The frame is probably twisted like a pretzel!!
Original trans cross member cut out, non-stock engine mounts, looks like the mounts weren’t good, so a chain was welded in. Has motorcraft electronic ignition mounted on the inner fender.
Good sheet metal, but probably not a restoration project. Too bad, originally a standard(can tell by the steering column), good work truck in its time.
Definitely good body sheet metal there. Looks like the frame has been compromised so someone will need to do some work or try to source out a new frame. The original motor would likely be a 292. I would be tempted to drop in an FE, which was available the following year. A 390 would make it go like Jack, the Bear. I’d keep the long wheelbase and do a nice driver restoration. These trucks look good in a fairly stock stance; they leave a lot to be desired slammed to the ground….
A gasser? Good heavens, it never ceases to amaze what some folks will do, to achieve meager results. This is no more gasser material, than,,,well, it just isn’t. Put it back to stock, and, heaven forbid, use it as a vintage pickup,,,sheesh.
I have a 65 that I use daily, I used the DJM lowering kit and wow what a difference in the drive and looks. I myself have been trying to just get my money back 6500 but I guses monies tight. Well good luck with the sale.
Some wouldn’t think this is worth much but the body looks plenty solid to me. A Ford fan with a moderate amount of ability and time could easily turn this into a worthwhile driver.
A nice small block, a nice automatic transmission, 3.73 rear and a plain red paint job. My brother started knocking the patina look last year and I’m starting to agree with him.
I know this ad is old, but I bought this truck and did a Crown Vic conversion on it. It was a blast to drive and IMHO looked cool. I sold it to a guy in Canada and boy do I miss it.
