An original and complete car should never be cut up to build a hot rod. But, what about an empty shell that has been sitting for years? This 1940 Ford Coupe may just fit the bill. The interior has been gutted and the engine has gone missing. Unfortunately, the title must have followed it. The body does look solid though, so if you could track down a title, this could make perfect hot rod material. You wouldn’t have to feel bad about making it your own because the car would still be better off than sitting in that lean-to for another decade. It’s located in Argyle, Texas and is listed here on eBay without a reserve. Now, the only question is – what would you do to it? Chop, channel, the works? Or maybe something a bit more subtle? If you could get the body straight, I’d like to see it painted black with a stock look and a modern V8 in the engine bay. How about you?

I often wondered if selling like cars at the same time was a good thing, as the bidders could compare the 2 or if it would devalue them as the bidders may think that if the owner has 2 of these, then how hard would be to find another for less?
Same here, I was very lucky the last item I auctioned off, it was the only one of it’s kind on the sight, and the top of the bubble as well. I would auction them off seperately as well. The seller must want to get them out of his hair asap.

As someone who only knows how to do basic car repairs, I am in awe of those who have the skill to bring a car like this back on the road.
While I prefer bone stock cars, I also appreciate resto mods that look original but have modern drivetrains. Either one would work for this car.
Considering the cost, there’s not much chance of a complete restoration on this 40 standard. However, I would be all in to make it into a period correct looking bootleggers car.
I would love to get my hands on it…media-blast everything, modern frame, 455 OLDS/turbo 400, hotrod primer, bigs n littles, front in the weeds…I WANT IT! Just give me the winter and we’ll go burn the tires…
