Immaculate Arizona Find: 1989 Ford Bronco

Cue the car chase jokes: this preserved 1989 Ford Bronco could not be a better (worse?) color given its connection to an infamous low-speed police chase. All those tired jokes aside, this is a nicely preserved 1989 Ford Bronco equipped with a rare manual transmission and sharp red interior. It’s said to be a recent “barn find” from Arizona and in excellent condition. Find it here on craigslist with a $10,000 asking price.

The seller provides some smile-inducing commentary in the listing, but more importantly recognizes the important details are things like the stout 4.9L I6 under the hood; the removable hard top that’s never been taken off; the working power rear window; and other desirable equipment, like manual locking hubs and the four-speed manual transmission.

The interior is eye-catching to say the least, and I wonder how many first-time Bronco owners opted for the lipstick red interior. I’d say it wasn’t stock, but the dash seems to tell a different tale. The carpet is heavily faded, especially compared to the other surfaces. The seller does acknowledge the seats have been re-done and I have to imagine it’s not quite to OE spec.

The seller has tackled a variety of maintenance issues, which should make the truck turn-key for the next owner. This includes a new brake master cylinder, transfer case, power steering pump, and a brand-new windshield. The new Centerline wheels look tough, but I’d go back to stock rollers pretty quickly if it were mine. Jokes aside, would you be caught in a white Bronco?

We had a 80 Bronco 4×4 with the dependable 302 and it was dependable but when we went on vacation from Illinois to southern Missouri that thing was a dog trying to pull our camper up those hills. I bought it in 81 and the Ford dealer I had done business with on a few cars & trucks, the salesman who sold it to me said the previous owner traded it after one year because he had a big boat to pull and he needed a bigger motor so he bought another Bronco with a 351. Wife loved our Bronco as long as we didn’t pull a trailer. The featured Bronco looks nice but with the size of the motor and a trailer hitch I would think twice about using the hitch except to bang your shins on.

Did. Someone forget to order A/C? Did someone forget to take a photo of the engine compartment? Either way I like this one, but much more with stock steelies and all terrain tires. That engine is not the best but would be fun to tweak a little more power out of. Maybe a swing-away spare tire holder too.No zebra stripes for me,but they would certainly put the OJ connection to rest.

Not feeling the love for the 300 six. IMO, one of the best engines ever built.

I completely agree. It’s one of my favorite truck engines, period.

I’m a GM guy for the most part, but I really like these Broncos. And that inline 6 is notorious for being indestructible, and no timing belts or chain to worry about. The article says the carpet is faded, but I don’t think it has carpet? What do you guys think?

Looks like faded carpet to me. The floor would be white if not.

I had an ’85 Bronco XLT. It came fairly loaded and was a good truck overall. I would probably still have it but the oldest boy needed a vehicle so I turned it over to him. It had 230K miles on it then yet he drove it another 80K before he sold it to a local Bronco enthusiast. I don’t see many of these running an inline six; it’s rather a novelty. I don’t think it would be all that bad and I sure wouldn’t be afraid to try one. This looks like a good truck. And I don’t mind a white vehicle; it’s a lot easier to keep clean. My Bronco was silver with black. The silver bleached completely out by the time the truck was five years old.

I had an 88 Eddie Bauer Edition, red and tan. Of all the cars I’ve owned I miss that Bronco the most. They seem to be making a come back in popularity lately, Im starting to see them on the road more and more.
This one looks like it missing the large center console between the front seats.

I had an ’89 Eddie Bauer edition, forest green with a tan top. I was a great tailgating vehicle and a lot of fun with the top off. I wound up selling it to a guy named….Ed Bauer. It was meant to be.
