This 1973 AMC Javelin is said to be a one owner vehicle (well, two if you count the seller), that has traveled just over 99,000 miles. You will find it listed for sale here on eBay. Located in Boise, Idaho, it is being offered for sale with a clear title. Bidding on the Javelin opened at $500, but it has soon shot up to $13,500 at the time of writing. The seller provides a great array of detailed photos, and a video, to illustrate the condition of the car.
Triple black cars always tend to look good, and the Javelin is no exception. That black paint almost looks deep enough to fall into, and it is hard to find any real flaws or issues. The black vinyl top also looks to be in great condition, while all of the exterior trim and hubcaps also look to be great. The seller provides a number of shots of the trunk, floors, and frame, and it looks as solid as a rock.
The interior of the Javelin presents just as well as the exterior. There is not a tear, rip, crack or seam separation to be seen in the front. I did notice a small tear in the back of the driver’s seat facing into the back that should be fixed. My big bug-bear is the fact that there is a wrap on the wheel. I’d be losing that pretty quickly. Otherwise, the interior looks to be complete and totally original.
Under the hood is the 304ci V8, which is backed by the 3-speed Torque-Command automatic transmission. The seller basically states that the car drives perfectly and that everything works as it should. The car is fitted with power steering, power brakes, and air conditioning. Once again, the presentation of the engine bay is first-rate. If I bought the car, the only things that I would change would be to fit a shorter battery cable, and I’d also replace the plastic fuel filter with a metal one. Call me paranoid, but I don’t like plastic filters much, and I like them less when they are sitting above an engine.
I’ve just given this car a rave review, and I have to say that it does seem to be in exceptional condition. An in-person inspection would definitely be warranted, but judging by the bidding at present, there are a few people who like this one. I did some searching around and was only able to locate one other example for sale that is original and equipped the same as this car. It wasn’t a triple black car, but the asking price on it was $22,500. I will be interested to see where the price on this one goes.
Funny most of us used to crap all over the second gen inflated Javelin ,and AMX.
I actually love this design now,and prefer my original “midnight plum” 73 AMX with the Pierre Cardin interior ,to my 68 390 AMX.But then,I’m a Vette guy ,and let’s face it ,these pay more homage to the mighty Corvette than anything the General ever made LOL .I witnessed a Black 401 car pull 45k at Russo Steele a few years back ,but it was “Best in the World” caliber.I think high teens should reel in the tiny 304 car. Then again, the 401 bolts right in the same holes where this 304 comes out of.500 hp is easy ,and reliable, out of a 401.I know that’s the direction a guy named “mainlymuscle ” would be headed !
Pretty impressive eBay presentation also.
Hmmm… No underside pics…. Would be better presented.
Several in the listing…..hhhmmmmmm.
Wow. Compare it to the cost of taking a ratty one and making it look like this…
I love these. I was in Junior High when these were new and didn’t think much of them back then but looking at this now I realize how pretty and unique these cars were. This one is super clean.
Now THAT’S how you clean a car for pictures on a cars for sale website. Kudos to the owner.
I’ve always loved the Jav’s and AMX’s. Just never got the chance to get one.
I have this seller in my Saved Seller list on eBay. He sells a wide variety of cars and they are all in great shape and well presented. If you scroll down on his ebay listings there are usually many more photos
Engine is the wrong color.
Yeah, that’d be a huge dealbreaker for me. Like finding out your beloved fiancé has an outie instead of an innie. Dang. Too bad, it might have been forever.
“Auto Zone didn’t have any AMC Blue so I painted it Ford Blue, hope you don’t mind” said the machine shop.
Yeah definitely too much black paint in the engine bay. There’s a lot there that was replaced or repainted without consideration for what it should look like from the factory.
Eyewateringly gorgeous. Too bad about the 304/auto combo (it’s pretty weak for a car this size), but who cares when it looks like this. I’m admittedly an AMC fan in general, but this should make believers out of many.
Of note: a ONE-OWNER car literally has had one owner since new. Anyone who buys a car from the original owner no longer has a one-owner car. I don’t care if you’re the offspring of the original owner– you’re now the second owner. In such cases, you can say “one-family owned”, but there’s only one first owner.
Wowsers, it’s like stepping into a time machine! The 304 makes it a cruiser rather than a racer and that’s OK, it would be almost criminal to change anything on this car.
I gotta bad feeling about this Scoob….
This was not my favorite year for the Javelin, I liked the 69\70’s. That said, this car is gorgeous, and if it sells near the current bid it is a bargain. Much better deal than the Firebird in today’s posting.
Beautiful classic pony car that’s 45 years old. Back in it’s day, the Javelin faced tough sales competition from the Mustang, Camaro, Firebird, Barracuda, Challenger and Cougar. This AMC example survived well. Because it’s not a Chevy or Ford with a bigger engine, some collectors may mistakenly pass up this nice car.
Nada Guides say its worth 35 grand.
I say its worth at least 30 in this condition which is wonderfull.
2 hours to go and has not got to 15 gs
Will not be sold this time
If they would have driven it another 755 miles, they could have sold it as a new car.
Sold for $14,000 which, from looks only, is an incredible buy. I’ve been following these for awhile and they usually go for at least 10K more in this condition.
Not sure how bidding goes but I doubt if dealer let this go for 14 unless something is really wring with car.
Just sayin do not believe what auction says happened ?????
Nothing wrong with a 304 , though a 73 wouldn’t have the same HP as it would have had in 1971, and these cars are not as heavy as they look.
