It’s amazing how fast a car can degrade when not properly maintained. Take this 1949 Ford Custom Convertible which toured South America in 2001. This car ran in the 2001 Inca Trail endurance rally, which took it from Rio to the Southern tip of South America all the way back to Rio. This car runs, but it is going to need a refreshing to be enjoyed again. If you’re looking for a car that has some great history and has already proven itself, you can find this one in Morehead Kentucky here on eBay with a current bid of $2,550.

This Ford ran with some very high end company as it traversed South America in the HERO organized rally. The Ford looked a lot better in 2001 and must have run very well to make the journey. The flat head V8 still runs, but will likely need a good tune up.

Okay, so maybe it wasn’t the most reliable when it ran the rally, but it did complete the 7,000 mile journey. That is a long way to go in an old Ford convertible with a flat head V8. You have to respect automobile enthusiasts who have this kind of passion and dedication for what they love.

The underside is starting to rust and we wish the paint was in better condition, but they could just be counted as battle scares. We are sure this car holds many memories and we would be sure to contact the previous owner just to discuss its history and all the places it has been. We normally would not be too excited about a shoebox Ford, but this beauty deserves to be back out on the open road looking for its next adventure!
