If you’ve been wanting a forward-control pickup from the ’60s, and there were a few companies who offered them, this is the one to get. I can’t believe how nice this 1966 Ford Econoline Pickup is. It’s got a Detroit front axle and a perfect stance, in my opinion, given the legend of how these trucks handled in braking situations. The seller has it posted here on craigslist in Silverton, Texas, and they’re asking $12,900. Here is the original listing, and thanks to Tony P. for the tip!
I can’t believe how much work was put into this gorgeous Econoline; it truly looks perfect to me. Pool table-level, that stance is fantastic and has to be much better in the ride department than how they usually looked jacked up in the back. The wheels are legendary American Racing Wheels and look great with the BF Goodrich white wall tires. The paint appears perfect, the lines are laser straight, etc. How is this truck only $12,900?
The tailgate was frenched in and looks amazing, as does the custom trim that came from Econoline and Falcon vans. Who designed and built this truck? Do they have a shop in the Silverton or Amarillo, TX area? I want to work there. This is the most perfect-looking Econoline pickup I’ve seen, ever. 1961 through 1967 were the model years for the Econoline pickup and van, and this cool cab-over look was offered by Ford, Chevy, Dodge, Jeep, Volkswagen, and probably others. We don’t see the bed, unfortunately, but they say it has a hydraulic-operated hard cover.
The interior is just as amazing as the exterior. Condition-wise, it looks perfect and has seats from a Mustang with a custom doghouse cover for the engine between the seats with a matching pattern. Just gorgeous. The seller says this truck was painted in 2011, and how it’s managed to stay looking this nice for 14 years is a mystery. This truck has new shocks, disc brakes in front, new king pins and front wheel studs, and much more.
As if the general exterior and interior condition wasn’t enough (I’ve already gone through two Kleenexes), check out this Ford 302-cu.in. OHV V8! That isn’t a sad old drippy, smelly carburetor; this one has a Holley sniper EFI system and also vintage-air AC! It’s backed by a three-speed automatic, and for $12,900, there is no way on earth a truck this nice could be reproduced for anything close to that price. Please check out this one and let us know your thoughts on it in the comments.

I think you need to buy it, Scotty! The only thing keeping me from going for it — aside from the money — is a concern that the builder, while obviously reading my mind, may not have sorted it as much as I’d want to. I think that’s pretty common with hot-rodders, who build cars to fit their own needs, style and budget.
All the basics, from a solid 302 to the Torq-thrusts, are there. Just what I would have done in that situation, though I would have kept the bumpers, as it’d be driven far and often.
If I remember right, Ford built a handful of V8 Econoline vans to use as chase vehicles for the Falcons run in the Monte Carlo Rallye back in the early 1960s (’63?). Replicating one of those — with, perhaps, the Club Wagon variant — has long been on my list.
I can picture Scottys fully restored bikes in the bed of this truck headed for a show. Its beautiful.
The rumor I heard was that Holman-Moody stuffed 427s in those Falcon trucks.
Jim: No, no, the center window remained the same, while corner windows were added to each side of the cab, similar to some 1947-54 Chebbie pickups.
I second that Scotty should add it to his collection!
Wish it was a 5-window.
Wish it was in my garage and paid for..
Pardon my ignorance, but where would the fifth window be ?
Split back window
The rumor I heard was Holman-Moody stuffed 427s in those Falcon trucks.
Jim: No, no, there were separate windows in the rear corners of the cab; the center window remained the same.
Careful, too good to be true and why isn’t it gone yet?
Because Silverton Texas is in the middle of nowhere, 4 hours from Oklahoma City, 4 1/2 to Dallas. It looks like a good deal, but cars in remote areas often take time to sell.

This truck is a one in a million as far as upgrades, condition, and price! Was never really into these back in the day, but whoah!, I’d LOVE this truck!
Super build! This truck is beautiful, and a great value. Good luck to the new owner.
I’m not a big fan of these, but I agree this build looks to have been done very well. Mechanical upgrades, attractive mods and trim, it just looks “right.”
I owned this truck and did a ton of work to it. Guy I sold it to did more and eventually listed it on BaT where it sold for $47K. The ad is a scam.

For the love of… Sorry about that, folks – I knew $12k was a ridiculous price for a vehicle this nice. I searched Barn Finds to see if it’s been posted before, but didn’t search the internet for this exact one. Ugh. Thanks for the heads up, jimmyx. Fantastic work, by the way.
As Dad told me many years ago, if it looks too good to be true, it probably is. Here’s a little trick: highlight all or most of the text in the ad, then Google it, and there it is,,, sold on Barnfinds for a mere $47k in 2022.
Highly likely a scam – was posted on BAT and Bid to USD $29,000 on 12/21/22. The pictures are from the BAT posting… …use caution!
I bet the V8 adds to the overall ease of “stoppies”. No 500lb. ballast on the floor needed like the Corvair ad falsely showed. An incredible build on probably one of histories worst renditions of a pickup truck. These were never designed for a V8, that came out in 1969, and could make a dangerous vehicle even more unpredictable. Stopping it may be a challenge, and like all cabovers, you get a birdseye view of the impending rear ender. That engine cover may get a bit warm too. It really is the sharpest Econoline pickup I’ve ever seen.
LOL. First I said was, “this looks too good to be true”. And it is…🙁
How is this truck only $12,900?
Because it is on Craigslist with the other Scams
I find more scams on EBay than Craig’s List. So, really, platform doesn’t matter. Caveat Emptor, always.
Scotty, no worries about posting a scam. They are way too common nowadays.
Too bad it’s a false advertisement, I only live 70 miles from Silverton and would buy it in a heartbeat!
The rumor I heard was that Holman-Moody stuffed 427s in those Falcon trucks.
Jim: No, no, the center window remained the same, while corner windows were added to each side of the cab, similar to some 1947-54 Chebbie pickups.
This is a sweet looking truck! But I can’t imagine having legs after a collision in the front with this vehicle. Or much else for that matter.
I have a 5-window. Can’t say it
s quite as nice as this one (scam or no); mine is still an I6 & column 3-speed.
Would love those Mustang seats! The backs fold forward- unlike the factory seats.
