Instant Hot Rod! 1954 Chevrolet Pickup

Disclosure: This site may receive compensation from some link clicks and purchases.

This 1954 Chevrolet pickup has a great patina look. You can clearly see it has been repainted several times over the years with the layers of paint showing through in various ways. The slotted mag-style wheels are a great hot rod touch and make the truck appear pretty sporty. It can be found for sale here on eBay with a current bid of $2,900 and the reserve hasn’t been met yet. The truck is located in Everest, Kansas and I’m guessing the seller may be a dealer since there aren’t many details in the ad, plus Kansas residents pay sales tax. Take a look and let us know what you think.

Based on the interior, it appears the original color is blueish/gray which should be “Horizon Blue.” The interior looks fairly original and you can see the manual shifter coming through the floorboards. The seller says there isn’t much rust in the cab with the worst spots being the cab corners.

As mentioned earlier, the seller of this truck is likely just a flipper. They describe the engine as “…someone put a SBC in it years ago (most likely shot)…” Well, that certainly isn’t a ringing endorsement for the mechanical condition. The engine looks pretty crusty and I’m guessing it doesn’t turn over or the ad would have said it did. You can tell there needs to be some wiring clean-up done, but any potential buyers had better budget for an engine swap.

Overall, this truck has a great look and would be a very fun project. Drop-in a budget small-block or go all-out for a monster crate motor and you’ll have an instant respectable hot rod. What would be your power plant of choice for this build?

Long water pump, post ’67 intake, more then likely a 350. Looks like a generator? Pics aren’t too good. If I was closer, I’d check this puppy out.

I only noticed at first glance nothing mounted to the front of the heads.

My dad had one of these back in the 50’s. His was yellow, 235 4 speed granny gear. Closed drive shaft, straight axel up front, 6 volt battery under the passenger side floor board. Without up grading the trans and differential v8 don’t help that much. I’d probably scrap that 8 and put another inline 6 in it. But really the price must come down.

Why disparage flippers? Aren’t we all really flippers at heart?
