Jaw Dropping: 1993 Ford F-150

Offered for sale here on Craigslist and located in Norfolk, Virginia, is this 1993 Ford F-150 4×4. It comes with a clean title and an eye-watering price of $45,000. Barn Finds reader Ian C referred this particular F-truck to us, so our thanks goes to him for that.

When I first saw this ninth generation F-150 I am the first to admit that it made my jaw drop. This is not a cheap truck, so I decided to find out just what it is that justifies the asking price. The first thing that I will say is that for a 25 year old truck it is in amazing condition. This is probably of no surprise since the F-150 has traveled a grand total of 8,300 miles, which the owner states is fully documented. With that sort of mileage on it then this truck is hardly run-in!

The interior looks exactly how you would expect a pampered truck with this sort of mileage to look. It is absolutely spotless. I have magnified the photos looking for a flaw and if there are any there then they escape me. All of the trim looks spotless with no discoloration or damage to report, and that leather-bound wheel looks brand new.

Unfortunately there are no shots of either the engine or the tray with this ad. To me this is an unforgivable mistake when a seller is attempting to sell a vehicle like this at a premium price. Engine bay photos can tell so much about a vehicle at a glance, and a single shot of the tray can tell you whether a truck like this has ever done any real work. I know that this truck is fitted with a tray liner, but those still get marked and scuffed if any load has been carried. In lieu of these two shots we are given this photo of the left rear wheel and tire. This is supposed to signify that this F-150 still rolls on its original, date-verified Firestone rubber. To me this is of little benefit unless the seller is targeting this car as a museum piece. Personally while I find it impressive that it still sits on its original rubber, I’d be loathe to drive any vehicle around the block on 25 year old rubber.

This is a tough one for me. To my mind I don’t care if we’re talking about a Ford F-150 or a Ford GT, vehicles are meant to be driven and enjoyed. As this truck stands right now its greatest claim to fame is its low mileage and originality. On the face of it a price of $45,000 seems totally outrageous and completely out of keeping with what the market can bare. The fact is that you can buy any number of similarly specified F-150s for less than a quarter of the price….but none of them have an odometer reading as low as this one. I’m not going to say that this F-150 is worth this sort of money, but nor am I going to say that it isn’t. I will, however, offer you this little piece of food for thought: You can go to automotive museums all over the world and see highly prized, low mileage examples of virtually all of the most desirable vehicles that you can possibly name. When was the last time that you walked into an auto museum and found a genuine, low mileage Ford F-truck on display? Some day a museum is going to want trucks like this from all of the vehicle manufacturers to complete their displays, and trucks like these are usually beaten into submission fulfilling their designed purpose. Maybe that’s where this big Ford really fits in the big picture.

It’s a beauty, but not $45K worth of beauty. I agree about the tires. It’s too risky and most likely calling Coker Tire is all that it will take to get a new set of Firestone reproduction tires.

Why do you think an old used truck, that you can find everywhere, is worth 36K?

      Not even !! I paid 37K for my 2016 XLT F-150 & it’s loaded. Ridiculous price.

Max I believe that despite the incredibly low miles and overall condition, you are still being very kind. To myself (a lover of these trucks) I truly cannot see over 25k …tops. You’re indeed a gentleman.

What’s right about this truck? It’s way overpriced, definitely not something that would even be considered for Museum etc. In think it’s really good for is to be used as a truck and if you want for that purpose is about $40,000 higher in price than it should be!

Yes, it’s in great condition but other than that it’s just a F-150, nothing special at all.

Todd got it in one Dirtymax. I’m from Down Under. Given the fact that the majority of our readers are from the USA I try to avoid Australian terms but it’s hard at times.

I have a 1997 F 250 with 280,000 more miles that is just as good of condition. Granted the original tires are long gone. If someone wants to pay me 45K. I might be interested in selling it. The truck has been in the family since it was new. Oh by the way it’s a Power Stroke and 5 speed.

The price has to be a misprint. It has to be.

Doesn’t it say Sport Satellite on the side? It doesn’t have hardly any trim on it for it to be a Fury wagon.

Rather see that wagon, then same car twice or 3 times in 6 month time. Fix the air, put in stock am/fm radio drive it with pride, a beauty.

I’m a diehard Ford truck guy, and this configuration is amongst the best looking…but I wouldn’t be in at any more than $20K. Nice truck, but not yet as collectable as that asking price suggests… maybe in another 20 years.

I agree. I’ve had numerous F series truck. They just don’t bring that kind of money. The miles, if correct, justify a good price, but these trucks of this vintage haven’t appreciated to 40k.

        Or anywhere close to 10k.

Agreed. Seller is trying to exploit the fact that it’s the last year of it’s body style 15k is a fair price.

This truck is priced 30-35 thousand more then its worth. Maybe seller added a extra zero by mistake.

Not exactly a rare machine, Ford sold so many pick ups it was staggering.
Only thing jaw dropping about this F150 is the sick price, won’t get it most likely.(hopefully)

I have sold Fords since 2004.. have sold and traded for minimum a couple thousand vehicles, and a ton of F150s.. so I would consider myself pretty knowledgeable. I do like this body style F150. If this truck checks out, no paint or body work, assuming it’s got a 302, and everything works.. it’s worth about 10-12 grand. And that’s it. I’m sure the OE tires are dry rotted, so that hurts it a bit. Nice truck, silly price.

For that kind of money I can buy an even lower mialege truck. Maybe with only six mikes on it. It’s called a brand new truck.

Ford 4×4 truck owner since I bought my first new one in 1976 and my 2016 F-150 quad cab XLT 4×4 was listed for 45K but after Ford incentives and a 3K discount from where the wife works only paid 36K with every option but a bathroom and I thought I would never pay that much for a pickup truck, but at my age it is the last new vehicle I will ever purchase so there is no way I would pay that price for a 25 year old truck which has never been used as a truck anyway. Mine is used to haul grandkids, dirt, gravel, appliances, an engine or 2. It has it’s original tires, spray in bedliner, 30K miles.

I agree with a comment above, he can ask whatever he wants. However, that’s the kind of truck someone buys for their high school kid’s first car for $5,000. Tell them they got damn lucky on the find, and to have fun.

With the condition and low miles I could see $8k to $9k. Any more is too much. All the rubber, seals, gaskets, hoses, belts, etc are still ancient and subject to failure at any time. All the fluids have just been sitting in reservoirs, pans, differentials. Parts that should be oiled/lubricated by use and movement like inside engine and transmission have not been.

Giant can of worms if you’re not a collacter of the “super rare” F-150 regular cab 4×4.

Maybe $40K if it were a first year ’93 Lightning with the SVT Cobra package, but no way for a regular F150.

There is nothing special about this truck nothing at all! It’s just a standard run of the mill truck! I think that this guy is dreaming! Heck you might as well buy a brand new truck, it would be in the vecinity of the asking price on this one!
