The Chevrolet K5 Blazer Chalet is one of the coolest camper conversions ever built, and it’s a vehicle that continues to find favor in collector circles. The limited production nature of this slick factory-backed conversion, along with the overall tightness of the package, makes for a legitimate collector’s item that will likely continue to appreciate as long as overlanding is a thing. Find this barn find Blazer here on eBay with bids to $16,000 at the moment.
The seller found this Chalet as a clear barn find specimen and then got it back to running, driving condition. The good news is it didn’t take much effort to bring it back to life, and we like seeing sellers that capture the barn find excitement of the initial discovery while also doing some work to make the vehicle road-worthy (you’re not paying for the barn dust, in other words.) The Blazer cleaned up well, and supposedly drives even better. I love the front-mount spare and the period-correct bug guard.
Inside is a bit of a time-warp, with the living quarters still looking quite tidy and almost move-in ready. The listing contains some great details about the museum-like artifacts the seller found when opening the Chalet up for the first time, including “….a vintage AC DELCO rain jacket and pants that appear to have been unused…two vintage 1980 Honda open face riding helmets with Honda carrying bags…a make shift first aid kit with vintage items as well…and what appears to be one of the first printable route calculators “Infomile 2.” There was even still propane in the holding tank, so it sounds like this Chalet was parked with the intention of going on more adventures in the future.
The bucket seat fabric is flat-out awesome and the door panels and carpets appear to be in good shape. The seller notes that the driver’s side floor is rusty, and that both battery trays and the inner fender area just below the trays are rusted out as well. Still, everything else looks so complete and in decent order that some contained rust repair is hardly a reason to ignore this well-preserved camper. I suspect we’ll see bids north of $20,000 by the time all is said and done; where do you think it will end up?
