If you are a fan of cool classic trucks with that cruiser/lowrider vibe, this 1959 Chevrolet is right up your alley! It features a custom chassis with airbag suspension and needs the right new owner to finish the build. It can be found here on eBay with a current bid of $7,500. Located in Lawndale, California, the truck is being sold on a bill of sale and the seller says they can help with the VIN verification paperwork. Take a look at this awesome truck and imagine how you would finish it.
Here you can see the awesome custom chassis that lies beneath the weathered body panels. The suspension features a Camaro front clip with 4-link in the rear. The rear axle is a 10-bolt out of a Silverado pickup that features disc brakes. The Airride suspension is able to be controlled at each corner by paddles in the cab!
Here is probably the biggest drawback to the truck. The new owner will need to supply the engine and transmission. The nice thing is it is a blank slate. Of course, you could do a crate small block (yawn) or an LS engine. But what about thinking outside the box? How about a Camaro V6? The 2020 Camaro V6 features 3.6-liters and puts out 335 horsepower. More than enough to have fun with in this truck. How about adding the available 10-speed paddle-shift automatic transmission? Yes, please. What engine would you suggest?
The interior looks just fine the way it is to me. It already features a tilt column with a custom hand-made steering wheel that the ad says was nearly $400. The cab also features a new windshield and an un-cut dash. You can see the airbag controls and gauges under the dash and are within easy reach of the driver. Do you think this interior is fine as-is?
There’s not much better than a classic truck laying on the rockers. While it isn’t the look for everyone, you have to appreciate the engineering and craftsmanship that goes into the frame and suspension of these trucks. What’s your opinion?
Obviously, they have no plans to paint it. Sure looks like a lot of work, you know, with such a radically designed chassis, I’d be concerned if it went down the road straight, or didn’t shake and vibrate. Do these builders really know what they’re doing, or is the look first, then safety. Again, maybe it’s me, but the ’59 Chevy was such a nice design, sure looks like heck now.
I’ve never liked the slammed down look. I like the look of these with a subtle lowered stance but I pass on air bag suspension. Love the year and design but again it needs refinished.
I can’t agree with you more Chris M. I never want to take away from someone’s time, effort, expenditure and talent, but to me it just looks stupid. I hope this trend will soon pass. And the patina thing is starting to wear on me. Oh well, it’s not my truck…
Good point. I’ll give credit to the builder. That’s alot of chassis work and it’s clean. However just not my taste.
I never cared for the slammed-down look either; it looks like it will high-center on a cigarette paper. I could take this down some roads out west that would reduce this to a smoldering hunk of scrap iron in less than two miles. But I acknowledge that there are those who really love this and roll their eyes at my original restored stuff.
Engineering, check.
Craftsmanship, probably.
I’m stopping right there.
Still, guess it’s better that the crusher.
I think I’d install a small-block Ford with a 5-speed, just to p*ss off the Chevy guys. Like Chris M, I don’t care for the “in the weeds” look, at least on a pickup. Lots of work left to do so as far as I’m concerned, being talentless and financially challenged, this wouldn’t be for me. I’m sure somebody will like it so good luck to whoever steps up and buys it.
This makes this ol grey hair nuts. Beautiful work on the chasis, money spent, and to have that rotten body sitting on it. That’s a great style chevy but it looks like dog$hit here. I don’t like to criticize others work, this was somebody’s baby but I don’t like the slammed look on a vehicle like this. I’m sure if you had put this in the shop for someone else to do you could get up to the asking price right quick. At least put it in primer. Now for another cup of joe, might have to switch to decaf. good luck!!
Cheers

I love the way it looks but I also like basset hounds and furniture that is close to the ground. I would definitely want to paint it though and pretty it up some. Even primer gray would look good. I am a bit leary of a custom-built chassis when I don’t know the builder.
Another classic ruined!
