Although having earned quite a reputation through time, the Pacer was a neat little American made vehicle. This ’77 Wagon model is very clean example with minimal concerns for its extended lifespan. With a fair amount of recent work, this comical little wagon is ready to roll. You can live out your life’s aspirations and dreams with this Pacer for a mere $4,000. Check it out here on craigslist out of Alhambra, California. Thanks to Pat L. for another solid find!
Shoehorned under the hood is a straight 6 auto with air conditioning. Unfortunately the air conditioning system needs work, but a fair amount of work has already been put into this pacer. Rebuilt carb, brakes front and rear, a tune up, and even a new battery. Also the radiator looks to be newer as well. As a whole, the engine bay seems quite clean with the possibility of cleaning up even better with some fine detailing.
Miraculously, the interior of this Pacer is nearly flawless considering the age, and being a California car. The dash along with the rest of the interior plastics have a rich glow with no evidence of any major sun fade, or cracking. Even the carpet and upholstery appear excellent as well.
Repainted at some point in time, the exterior shines quite well, but there are a few minor issues as it is an older repaint. The body is quite straight, and all of the bright work is in excellent shape. There are only 2 drawbacks to this Pacer. If you look closely you will see that there is some bubbling occurring on the driver side rear quarter. It’s fairly well hidden, but it is worth mentioning. Secondly, the windshield is cracked. As a whole, this is a nice condition Pacer wagon that with a tad more polishing would be a sweet little jewel. Are you a fan of this Pacer Wagon?
If you like these little oddballs, this one seems like a pretty good deal. Looks like it doesn’t need much, it’s a really clean car. Apparently ready to enjoy needing only a few issues to address. Fix the A/C, replace the windshield and take care of the rust before it spreads. Hopefully, the underside is solid, that needs to be carefully checked out. For a car with 137k on it, the interior looks really good. GLWTS.
A coworker had one of these, she called it a baseball cap….kinda does resemble one..
Bought one new in 77, a manual with AC. Loved it. Ahead of it’s time like the AMC Eagle but like most things ahead of their time they were years too early to appreciate.
The color combination is atrocious but that was the 70’s for you.
Throw on some BTO, and lets cruise the open highway! Taking Care Of Business!
Nice looking car. I’ve always loved the AMC Pacer wagon. My favourite years for the Pacer are 1975 through 1977. I love the condition of this one. Very nice. I hope this goes to a good owner. :)
Nice example
It’s wonderfully bizarre. Always liked them for that reason. Good luck to the next owner.
So you’re saying it took the “Lemon Pledge”?
I want it with the GM rotary engine.
At least the wagon looks less like a fishbowl on wheels than the original car !
the wagon, rack on top, no hood bump, i6’n auto, no ‘extra trim’? all to the good I’d say. My next DD!
John Denver drove a Pacer in the 1977 movie Oh God, starring George Burns, God talks over the radio and god makes it rain inside the vehicle, funny movie, funny car, Terry Garr was in the movie too, I would’ve gave God the Pacer and stood home w Terry
My mom liked these and bought one in possibly 77.
Hers was silver and I think it had a red or burgundy interior.
My father (who drove a Lincoln town car) used to harass her about it being parked in the same driveway!
It was nothing I would have wanted, but I still thought they were very unique and cool looking. (like the Gremlins were)
I used to call it a moon buggy because of the bubble shape and all the windows.
All of that makes it one of those neat / cute collectables now.
I wouldn’t mind driving one around to shows myself these days now!.
I just happened to find a clean one !!
When I see a 1977 California car with a 1980 plate on it, ,I wonder what happened in this 3 years.
People didn’t normally buy new plates, so I wonder what happened, unless it came from out of state in that year.
The Pacer was the vehicle I used for drivers ed, we used to call them “Aquariums” because of the ample glass configuration, actually safer to see all around you. Wish I had one now. Thanks BF.
