Leopard Skin Print: Custom 1994 Dodge Viper

One of the best ways to get into a car that is listed for a discount is to buy one that’s been modified. Of course, it’s a slippery slope in terms of how modified the vehicle in question is and how difficult it will be to reverse those custom touches. This 1994 Dodge Viper sports a variety of custom touches that will be challenging to return to stock, but if you can get the seller to come down a bit further, it could be worth the labor of bringing it back to stock specs. Find this Viper listed with a custom leopard print interior and engine bay here on Facebook Marketplace for $35,000.

As you can see from the top photo, it’s not just the seat and dash prints that make this one custom; the seller notes it also has taillights from a 1959 Cadillac, the wheels are clearly custom, and the roof has been cut and lowered two inches. The paint is also a matte finish, and who knows what else has been messed with. Personally, I like stock cars, so this one gives me all sorts of bad vibes, but I also see a path to redemption. Enough Vipers have been wrecked over the years that you may be able to salvage the parts necessary to return the taillights and the roof pillars to stock configuration, and the leopard print is certainly a rip-and-replace affair.

While my preference is for stock vehicles, I can appreciate the work done when it’s executed to a high level. The work here leaves me scratching my head, as it seems like the builder (who may be different than the seller) was going for a rat rod build on a car that really isn’t suited for that application. There are so many other vehicles that work well  for the “lead sled” application, and a high-powered sports car wouldn’t be my first choice. The listing doesn’t get into any details on mechanical health or upkeep, but Vipers have a reputation for being fairly robust.

Perhaps you could live with the taillights, and maybe even the chopped roof. I would absolutely reverse the wheel choice and the leopard print, and if the paint can be salvaged with a custom wrap in a stock-ish color, you are well on your way to owning a desirable supercar for a potentially lower price than advertised. This listing has been pulled once already, so I suspect the seller is anxious for a serious buyer and I can only imagine the type of tire kickers he’s getting with a Viper in this sort of condition. Price it at $25,000 and watch it leave the garage in a matter of hours. Thanks to Barn Finds reader Mitchell G. for the find.

Grandpa says this must have been owned by Huggie Bear. Who is that? He won’t tell me, he just smiles.

I did, he just smiles at that also. Must be a Boomer thing. Whoever these guys were, must have been pretty lowlife types to leave a car like this. No taste at all.

I’ll just say this and those who know me will have heard this before…”I never stop being amazed at the stupid crap people will do to a car”.

Or, is it a reference to the song by Cream? If so, have yo heard of the version “Lawdy Mama” with different lyrics.

Switching it over to snakeskin would be more appropriate, but just as ugly.

This red hot Viper gives off slippery pole vibes and not the firehouse variety.

Maybe fix the cosmetic stuff and take it to track day at Road America? If it’s up to the task mechanically, that is. After undoing all the ugly stuff, of course. You couldn’t pay me to be seen in this thing as it is, and I’m a Mopar guy.

Unless it was like sub-$10k, I doubt it’s worth it to fix, because Vipers still haven’t gone up in price all that much. Last I checked, you can get 2 or maybe even 3 pretty nice ones for the price of one really nice Grand National.
