Low Mile Original: 1978 Lincoln Mark V

This is a great example of the days when coupes were the size of modern sedans. This 1978 Lincoln Mark 5 has 11,900 original miles on the odometer, a clean title, and is being sold for a hefty $18,000. Located between Hutchinson and Wichita, Kansas, you can take this surviving, and almost thriving land yacht home with you. More is found on Craigslist.

A big, burly 460 cubic inch V8 sits under the hood. All that huff and puff wouldn’t get it up to speed very fast when new, especially considering the car weighs somewhere around 4,800 pounds and only has a potential of 208 horsepower. You won’t get that now. The automatic transmission will help put the when new 356 foot-pounds of torque to the wheels.

Surprisingly, there are no pictures of the interior. That is a little strange. The seller is keen to note the car is all original with all the bells and whistles that could come with the car, except leather interior and aluminum wheels. A Jade green interior is what is noted and they state that everything works. It would be nice to know what everything is and to have pictures of some of it.

The listing does note a few things are new on the car. Whatever way you interpret this, the tires are still original and are said to be square. Clearly, the car has sat for long periods of time, and only moved to flatten another side of the tire. They have replaced the battery and a fuel pump, along with a Y exhaust pipe. That is not original. Maybe it makes it sound better? Who knows, but it looks good.

Pimptastic! I wonder if that’s 111,903 miles though. Misalignment of the left-most digits often means the dial has been reversed at some point, or gone round again.

Seller will be disappointed this is a 5-6 thousand dollar car. That is if you can find someone interested in a slow land yacht. Asking over 18000 hahaha

11k on the clock, the only way to sell this is at one of the big auctions. If its what has been represented it will fetch $12-$15,000. Very odd no interior or under hood photos. For that matter if you want this kind of money put it on a lift and post 24 photos of every nook and cranny.

    I doubt it’s 111000. 460’s would burn up the Valves usually by 65-80 K

I do love these Lincolns, but $18K is way too much money. If I were going to fly to Kansas and look at it, I would put $5K in my pocket. Anything higher and I would fly home.

I agree 5,000 should be the limit.
