Another day, another fine Fox body. This time, it’s a silver GT coupe from 1991, wearing the classinc GT bodykit and Pony wheels, and in a sharp color combo of silver and red. While we see an awful lot of clean Fox bodies come through here, the examples that don’t wear red or black always stand out, and the dark gray lower body classing with the silver painted surfaces up top is a great look. The seller reports that it has under 50,000 original miles and is unaltered from stock, all the way down to the factory radio. The Mustang belongs to his father, who bought it for himself as a retirement gift. It’s now available here on eBay with bids to $11,400 and the reserve unmet.
The seller notes that this is, indeed, a desirable color combination, listed as the rare combo of Titanium Frost with a Scarlet Red interior, and that the paint remains original above the lower body cladding. Those lower portions were just recently repainted, as they can often look beaten up after years of close proximity to the road. The level of care and attention given to the Mustang over the years is a testament to the seller’s father, who maintained the GT to a high level until just recently when he bought his dream car: a 1993 Ford Mustang Cobra. The Mustang has lived in Nevada and California and remains in rust-free condition, and the seller does disclose that the trunk lid doesn’t close tightly due to a bad striker.
The interior is in fine shape, with red carpets, upholstery, steering wheel, door panels, and even a matching red protective dash cover. This is a very typical late 80s/early 90s design, and while we may not consider it super attractive today, it was all the rage in 1991. The Mustang’s automatic transmission is a disappointment, but it almost certainly helped to ensure this well-loved survivor never became a beater with tricked-out performance parts bolted on at every corner. The seller notes the air conditioning works but is weak; that there are some mounting holes still visible from a previously installed device; and the speedometer needs a new cable to fix a bouncy needle in the cluster. I wouldn’t change a thing color-wise as the silver-over-red combo looks sharp as-is, and this is totally period correct.
The engine bay is nicely detailed, and it appears to have the blue hoses that came standard on SSP Mustangs, if I recall correctly. This is a rare and sought-after “upgrade”, and it usually means the owner pillaged them from a wrecked police car. Recent maintenance includes spark plugs, wires, cap and rotor, cabin filter, new transmission and differential oil, new battery, new rear shocks, and more. All replacement parts came straight from Motorcraft in keeping with the car’s OEM pedigree, and there’s no sign of any aftermarket performance parts under the hood. This GT may be yet another iteration of the popular Fox body platform, but the rare colors and impressive cosmetic condition truly set it apart.
Very nice. The silver/gray/red stripe/red interior combination is sharp. The seller reveals a few issues but most are minor. Along those lines, the hatch striker could be as simple as needing a new bushing; along with saggy door pockets, that is a common issue. I would only have one with a manual transmission, but that’s just me. An easy to live with collector car.
Good work as usual Jeff.
Another with the red/orange stripe still on the car. Automatic, boo. Two tone silver/gray combo not my favorite, rather have it one color.
It looks like this two-tone silver/titanium combination with available onbvn the GT from 1990-93. I’m embarrassed to admit I’ve never seen it before, and I’ve paid attention to these cars since they were new. I can imagine it is pretty rare.
Nice car but I never liked the Fox body cars.
I’ll take a pass on that claimed highly desirable murder red interior. Yuk. Black or even gray were more popular as most people think it looks better with the silver exterior. And the JC Whitney steering wheel cover and dash pad look really bad. Love the 2 tone silver paint though. Auto trans is a deal killer anyway
Great looking car but curious, why would it need a new trans w/those low miles?
It said new trans fluid and filter, not new trans. Nice car, but the automatic kills it for me. A fox body just isn’t a fox body to me with an automatic. They feel completely different. I love the color combo though. The hatch striker can be moved up and down to adjust it using a mid size torx. My gf slammed my capri hatch multiple times in the winter because it wouldn’t latch. Lock was frozen. Slamming it pushed the striker down so I had to readjust it. I bet it just needs to be moved up a hair.
