LRP Conversion: 1977 Dodge B200 Woodsman

If there were a contest for “Most 70s Inspired” interior, I believe this 1977 Dodge B200 van would be a contender. There’s some more homework that needs to be done about this Dodge’s origins, but the seller calls it a Woodsman model that was produced by the factory. The interior is nothing short of mind-blowing, and the paint job would make your head melt if you stare at it too long. What do you think the story is? Find this 1977 Dodge here on eBay with an opening bid of $15K.

I know we say it every time, but I still can’t get over the fact that there was a point in our history where painting conversions vans like this was the norm. That’s a surprisingly good mural on the side, and the tree out back looks like the one on the South Carolina license plates. The seller says the paint remains 95% original, and as a bonus, “…the Murals are “Hand Signed” by the artist,” an individual referred to as Bogan. This Bogan fellow was kind enough to provide a photo of the van, with its custom paint job applied, being prepped by the “factory” when new.

I’m still struggling to figure this part of the equation out, as it feels like some insider baseball from the vanning community. However, a very small nugget on a vanning forum indicates LRP was a conversion company near Lake Geneva, Wisconsin, that specialized in converting shorty vans like this one. The porthole windows, a bed in the back, paintings and murals were all their handiwork. The shag carpeting and wall / ceiling coverings likely originated there as well. Perhaps the LRP designation is known by those “in the know” as a badge of honor among vanners.

The Dodge features a 318 V8 paired to a 727 TorqueFlite automatic. Other creature comforts include power steering, power disc brakes, A/C, cruise control, AM/FM + eight track & CB radio. The seller says there’s really not much to write home about in terms of defects, and it is amazing to see a van created in the 70s with plenty of cosmetic enhancements that could deteriorate over time still in this good of condition. I hope the next owner continues to preserve this LRP-built conversion and that it makes an appearance in the vanning community soon.

I can’t think of too many things that would be more dangerous than that mirror above the rear area. In a crash that thing could be like flying knives in all directions. The van it’self is cool but that mirror would have to go.

It’s possibly a plexiglass mirror, I’ve seen them in the late 70s. But if its glass yeah its gotta go.

This is not a shorty van. It is a 3/4 long wheels base van.

The thick shag carpet makes me think of a pre air bag interior. Even in a crash, the person is going to bounce around without getting hurt.

Miguel, dude…from the pics, this is a 109 inch wheelbase, which makes this a shorty van. Screw your standards, cos this van is a shorty, no ifs and buts about it. Deal.

I’d weigh in on this riveting argument, but I guess my dad’s 5 Dodge dealerships wouldn’t give me any insight. Oh and there’s absolutely a butt involved. Deal.

Hey, Barn Finds guys can we get a block button, please. Sheesh.

This van was a sight that struck fear into any red blooded American Dad of a daughter in the early 80’s. I would suggest pulling that interior out with the aid of a HazMat team.

Sid! My childhood neighbor. I’m sorry I lost touch with him. He’s still around I know but we moved away. I heard he recently sold his house. What an amazing place that was, seriously fun. I’m sure they’ve tragically torn it down to build a soulless concrete monstrosity…but what a view from his treehouse!

Bonus is after a thorough cleaning of that shagged out interior you’d have enough smoke and snort to last a long weekend! This has to be a holy grail find among the niche vanning crowd.

Very cool van! Back in the day almost everyone had a van that they put personal touches to! They were cool then and still are! I really wished that companies still offered vans with these types of body styles!

You guys knocking it might have been – pretty well…do we use the word knocked or conceived ? With most guys having Cameros or Trans Am’s….it’s why some have back problems….man sure wish I had a van back in them early 70’s days….got my first place in 1974….still van’s ruled and still do ! Seen the conversion’s they do today – was at the Chevy dealer today and wanted and shoulda take a pick of that good time van….must have been $75,000 !
