LS-Powered: 1949 Chevrolet Pickup

Disclosure: This site may receive compensation from some link clicks and purchases.

This 1949 Chevrolet 3100 Pickup is listed for sale here on eBay and located in Imperial, Missouri. The bid has 3 days remaining and with 41 bids the price is up to $7,601. This truck is a pro touring build with a 4.8 liter LS V8 engine. The truck is said to run great and can be driven anywhere. The truck is being sold at no reserve.

The interior looks very clean with red aftermarket seats and there are no holes in the floorboards. The body is mounted on a 2004 Chevrolet Silverado Short Bed chassis which had about 116,000 miles on it when it was donated. The LS motor is backed by a 4L60e automatic transmission and the truck stops using its 4 wheel power disc brakes. The gauge cluster is from the Silverado donor and is working.

The 16″ wheels look great and really make the truck look like a pro touring vehicle. The LED headlights are a nice upgrade and the glass looks good all the way around. The exterior paint is yellow in most places but the seller probably put some effort into the patina look. The bed is wood and the frame is said to be structurally solid.

This is the best of both worlds. The buyer will get a truck with classic looks but the comfort of a modern vehicle. With power steering and fuel injection, this truck is probably a lot of fun to drive. You are not going to fool any purists with this one but I like it just the way it is. I have no idea what this one will sell for but it is a no reserve auction so we will see in 3 days!

Okay, I realize, this is the way to go for these today, love the visor, but my question, is why do they always have to have some crazy motor, why not just a simple 4.3, or even the straight 6? I guess that just wouldn’t sell today. And it looks like crap, enough of the patina fad, looks terrible. Old man, signing off,,,

Swapping in a 4.8 liter with 116,000 miles is not a crazy engine. It’s just a swap of an updated drivetrain. It’s no difffernt than someone swapping a 283 into one of these during the 1960’s, except this will get much better mileage with the inclusion of modern EFI and an overdrive.

This “style” of rodding is not for me – maybe it appeals to a younger crowd? If it brings young people into the hobby and saves some vehicles from the crusher, it’s all good.

Yes but in 5 years someone will probably come along change the truck and put a nice paint job and a cool interior. so for the time being its saved

Paint and a front bumper and you have a great cruiser. Nice truck. Ikey said it… if it got saved from the crusher it is all good.

I don’t see or hear mention of a/c. I live in Nevada and Arizona where temps sometimes reach 115 degrees. Enough said?

I’m 73 & I love it, this truck , not being 73. Yeah, paint, front bumper and finish the interior and I wouldnt mind owning it, visor & all.

As for the truck bit of a tough call. On first glance looks like an amazing combo cool old truck with some (at least looks to me) cool old patina on a nice modern chassis. But after watching the the walk around video seems a bit cobbed together. Maybe it just needs someone to properly finish it but I’d want to make that the combining of body and chassis were done in a reasonable fashion.

Yeah, it won’t fool the purists but looks like a blast to drive especially in Upstate NY where anything over 10 years old is rusted out and off the road. A truck that old that runs, rolls, and stops and here’s the clincher…..less than 5 figures?!? Yeah I could see myself in that

Sheesh. Run a DA over it and spray it with black primer at least. That would have pushed it over the 10 thousand mark a couple of days ago. All the right drive train but patina over kill.

Putting “Old Skin” over “New Bones” ain’t a bad idea. The original frame was probably to rusty to be reliable. After all, the frame dimensions are likely the same.

Ford used the same box on its pickup for years. Most Chevy boxes and cabs swap over fine.

Hot Rodding and the world of custom cars is about doing anything the owner chooses. It’s rolling art in many cases.

I just never understood the bucket seat idea in a pick-up.

If it were me, I’d put a bench seat and riser in it.

IMO, it’s a cool ride, but needs paint.
