Matching Numbers, No Reserve: 1975 Porsche 911

It’s hard to be an armchair quarterback on eBay vehicles, but this 1975 Porsche 911 Targa looks like a reasonably safe bet selling at no reserve. The seller scooped it out of a five-year hibernation in a specialist shop where it was partially disassembled for a restoration that never commenced. The original colors of brown over tan are perfect period shades for a mid-70s 911, and we hope that garish blue paint job is soon a distant memory. Find it here on eBay where bidding has clipped $14K with the auction ending on Friday.

No reserve 911 auctions are a rare site these days, so someone stands to get a great foundation for a project at a fair price. The seller notes the floorpan is in excellent condition and that the 911 “appears” to be rust-free, but a more thorough inspection is advised. The Targa hoop and panel are still attached, which causes me to breathe a sigh of relief considering how many stalled Speedster conversions we’ve seen. The black Fuchs will look fantastic against the original brown paintjob when it (hopefully) makes a return appearance.

The interior is tired but certainly not the worst we’ve seen. While the 911 looks fairly incomplete in photos, the seller is advising you not to worry: “I have a TON of parts for this car. Including the bumpers, all glass, door panels, all rubbers, lights, etc. Basically every part that the previous owner took off I still have, all boxed up and ready to ship with the car. I also have an extra set of bumpers, an extra door, and extra hood and rear deck lid, etc. The existing bumpers, windshield, and hood are just sitting there for pics, they aren’t bolted up.”

A new fuel pump helped the long-idled 2.7L flat-six fire right up. Notes the seller: “It now starts and runs just fine! It doesn’t appear to have any major oil leaks. In fact it runs very well, has lots of power and shifts through all the gears as it should making it an excellent running and driving project.” With the matching numbers and running motor, rust free pan and unmodified state (aside from paint) – and no reserve listing – this is potentially one to follow if you’re on the hunt for a Targa-bodied 911.

According to the eBay site, “this item is no longer available.” Sorry, targa fans.

You were late to the party. It was available and a few hours from ending when I saw it. Don’t blame barnfinds for that

kinda suspicious car and listing to me… but then again, I am paranoid about everything… ever since aliens have been sucking me out of and then putting me back in bed my their anal probe of me was completed every night. This wonderful machine is just waiting to suck the financial lifeforce out of some lucky buyer… but who can say it’s a bad thing if it’s want the buyer wants to deal with? not me.
