Mechanically Refreshed 1971 Honda CT70 K0

The seller of this beautiful 1971 Honda CT70 K0 has quite a collection as you can see in the background photos. I don’t mean a modest collection as I or any number of other people have, but a big-time mouth-gaping drool-worthy collection. They have this bike listed here on eBay in Indianapolis, Indiana, there is no reserve, and the current bid is $3,350.

A lot of our Barn Finds family of readers have owned Honda CT70s and I’m embarrassed to say that I have never had one and never even ridden one. That needs to change. The DAX, short for daschund, a nickname for these long snout-like motorcycles, came out in 1969 just as the early-70s outdoor adventure era was starting and they were made until 1994.

This bike appears to be in really nice condition and the seller has provided quite a few good photos. There are a few scratches and chips which can be expected for any vehicle this old that hasn’t been on a velvet turntable in someone’s living room. It’s nothing that a Q-tip and some color-matched touch-up paint couldn’t cure. This seller says that they always sell at no reserve which is risky but these things are red hot right now so if it’s even in decent condition it’s fairly valuable.

Speaking of value, Hagerty is at $2,200 for a #4 fair condition CT70 and $4,600 for a #3 good condition bike. This has to be more in the #3 range and they have sold for more than $10,000 in restored condition so this one will probably go up another grand before the end of the auction in a couple of days.

The engine is Honda’s 72-cc OHC air-cooled single-cylinder and this Candy Sapphire-colored trail bike has been throughly gone through by the seller’s Honda specialist with new gaskets, a new carb, etc., and they say that it runs like new. This sure looks like a nice one, let’s hear those Honda 70 stories out there!

      Actually, this place, https://chpmotorsports.com/, has everything. I rebuilt a Mini Trail 50 and a CT 70 and acquired most of the parts I needed through them.

    Anybody remember the Suzuki 125 that had fat tires on it more like the older Honda 3-wheelers? It was either a 5 or 6 speed and was great for trail riding – not really enduro, but for like riding up trails in the mountains? I had one bought used from maybe the ’70’s, in good condition, it was safer than a taller bike on narrow trails with steep drop-offs.

      I’ve owned only two RV125’s but had 6 RV90’s over the years. They’ve all found new homes. Not many Suzuki dealers in this area, which is sad as IMO, the quality was/is top notch. Here’s specs on the RV125 1974-78.

        Nice – thanks. Mine was a lime-ish green, and it had the full turn signals like the top pic. It was completely street legal, but when you rode it on main streets people would kind-of look at you funny because it was lower to the ground and had the fat tires, like you had ridden into town from the farm or something – it was kinda funny.

    I had a gold CT 70 in ~ 1971. 3 spd auto clutch. Would do 42 mph flat out. Great times for a 13 yo kid running the trails by the LITTLE cal river in Gary, IN
