Sometimes vehicles will come along, and you have to put a pretty big question mark over claims of ultra low mileage. Then you get cars like this 1988 Silverado, where the overall condition is so good that it would be virtually impossible to doubt these claims. The Silverado is now on the market with the owner setting a BIN price of $24,500 for the vehicle, but the option is available to make an offer. Located in Morganton, North Carolina, it is listed for sale here on eBay.
Let’s start with how the Silverado looks underneath. It’s pretty well spotless. There is a small amount of what I would call “gravel rash” under the vehicle, which is usually a result of fine dust peppering a few exposed, painted surfaces, but this is minor. There are also a couple of very small spots of surface corrosion on some frame edges, and these are really a case of me nit-picking to find faults. After all, metal has to age slightly in 31-years. The outside of the vehicle can only be described as immaculate. The presentation is as close to perfect as you are likely to find, and if you didn’t know the Silverado’s age, you would probably swear that it is close to a new vehicle.
Under the hood is also immaculate. You can see that the Silverado has been driven, but not much. The car has been kept in a climate controlled garage, it has been serviced regularly, and it hasn’t sat idle for years, so everything is said to work exactly as it should. The 350ci V8 engine sends its power to a 4-speed automatic transmission, and the Silverado is a 4×4. You also get power steering and power brakes, with ABS on the rear wheels. The vehicle is said to run and drive perfectly, and the photos of the underside seem to confirm the owner’s claim that the Silverado doesn’t leak or drip. The vehicle has recently been fitted with new tires, which is probably a fairly wise move.
As with everything else on the Silverado, the interior is spotless. Hiding under that dash cover, the pad is perfect. There is no sign of any marks, stains, or tears, with everything looking as new. It’s actually quite hard to believe that anyone has ever even been in the vehicle, so good is the overall condition. Creature comforts run to an AM/FM radio/cassette player, power windows, power locks, tinted glass, a tilt wheel, air conditioning, and a factory sports steering wheel.
There is no doubt that at the asking price, this 1988 Silverado is priced a long way above average market value for a Silverado of this vintage. However, finding an example for sale today with this sort of mileage on the clock is close to impossible. If you really want to own a brand new 31-year-old Silverado, this might be the one for you.
Nice Truck! I have almost the same thing, Red 91 1/2 ton long bed 2WD, fully loaded, never in the snow, 70k miles, mine has been garage kept too and doesn’t have as much rust starting as this one does on the frame. It’s up to $6900. now I will be watching the outcome.
Back around 2000 I bought a 1988 Silverado 4 X 4 extra cab long bed. It had 88 k miles on it. It had been a work truck and was sporting a replacement hood in flat black. I looked at the motor and the entire front end of it had been rebuilt. I thought hey that is a good thing. It didn’t occur to me that it had an engine fire until I had owned it for a few months. I had to replace the starter in a parking lot once. Then the heater control unit went out. Then the radio went out, then the transmission died, then the battery, then the dash lights died. I was discussing all this with my Brother in law and he was all about consumer reports and he told me that 1988 was the worst year in GM history for truck maintenance problems. Go figure. Someone suggested I by a new truck. I said hell I am a part at a time.
I did end up buying a Toyota T-100 which I am still driving. I paid $4750 for the chevy drove it most of the time for 2 years making money with it. Spent $2000 in maintenance and sold it to a guy for $4250.
This truck for sale it beautiful and in excellent condition to be sure. But if ya drove it much past 50k miles your gonna end up doing everything I did to my truck before it was all said and done. Top speed on a 4 x 4 is 80 mph, up hill, down hill or off a cliff. This thing would be kept as a garage queen, maybe in 20 years with that low mileage you could sell it to a museum. LOL
These trucks felt futuristic considering the again square bodies they replaced. I think 88 was the first year for them. This truck is beautiful, I can’t imagine ever paying that much though.
