This 1978 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme Brougham looks nice enough on its own, but what’s inside makes it a true winner. These cars were seemingly everywhere just a few years ago, weren’t they? Maybe it’s been 20 years already; time sure flies. The seller has this Cutlass with a special interior listed here on eBay in Morganville, New Jersey, and they’re asking $8,800, or you can make an offer.
Master writer Adam Clarke showed us a ’78 Cutlass Supreme with a similar Mojave pattern interior back in 2022 here on Barn Finds, and they’re always fun to see. This car looks fantastic, whether it has shower curtains for seat covers or this fancy and rare seat fabric. The fourth-generation Cutlass was made from 1977 for the 1978 model year until the end of 1988.
This car looks really nice to me, I don’t see any issues outside at all, at least from the photos in the eBay listing. The gold striping is said to be custom, but it looks perfect on this car, almost like a Hurst model. The underside looks clean but is showing some surface rust as expected. They say it’s “super super solid”, so there’s that.
The interior is the star of this car, though, with the rare “designer trim” Mojave pattern seat inserts. It was one of two special Native American trim fabrics offered in the Cutlass line for at least the 1978 and 1979 model years. The driver’s seat appears to need help, and this fabric doesn’t show up on the SMS Auto Fabrics website. You may get lucky and find replacement fabric on eBay. This auction is for the door panels in this pattern.
The back seats look perfect. I think this car, with the doors open at any car show would have a crowd around it.
The engine is a bit unusual. This car originally had a 260-cu.in. OHV V8 according to the VIN, but they say this is a replacement 350-cu.in. V8. It’s said to be an “older” 350 and has a THM-350 automatic transmission. It runs and drives as it should, has a new aluminum radiator, a new gas tank, and the HVAC controls are “frozen.” Hopefully, that’s an easy fix. Have you ever seen this interior fabric?

I always liked GM’s pillow-top seats, but that is butt-ugly!!!
and my 2¢ :
w👀w, beautiful, AWESOME car !
Dr Olds w the Native 🪶 pkg.
Love the lines on these cars.
350ci > 260 all day long. 🏁
I had a maroon 1978 Cutlas Supreme in College. I bought it used with 68,000 miles on the clock. Mine had the V6 engine and did fine for another 120,000 miles and was sold to be passed onto the next owner. I debated when looking for a used car between the Cutlas and the Camaro and decided the Cutlas would be better on ride and looks while in college. The late 1978 -1980 Camaros had lil horse power to win me over on another Camaro when compared to my HS 69 Z28 that I drove hard and raced on weekends. I met the future misses in a 78 Cutlas too, :-)
I do think the black makes the Cutlas look great. I always thought that this smaller model would have been a great looker in a convertible.
Good luck with the sale and the 350 should move this model along quite well.
I thought that I had made a Photoshop version already, but maybe not. Here’s a quick one!
These would’ve made a nice convertible Scotty.
I agree, sir, this body style was tailor-made to be a convertible. I’m sure if all was right with the world back then, we would have had many great convertibles between the ’76 Eldorado and ’82 LeBaron.
Indy 500 🏁 pace car right there SG. 😎 🏆 🥛
Scotty, your photoshop creation is spot on, better than the Riv., Eldo, & Toronado coach conversions.
Another thing the guy did right was the pin stripe, blends like a factory order.
Trading the 260 for a 350 Olds (wonder what year) motor was the best move.
Interior, never seen this in person, meh, along with the plaid looking ones I’ve seen in ’77-’77 Broughams.
Wonder what the seller means by “frozen HVAC controls”.
Didn’t they make a Regal convertible with this body style? I could be wrong.
This is one sharp Cutlass. The gold stripes really pop with the black paint. I don’t ever remember seeing an interior like this before. And truth be told, when I was a kid I always loved looking inside of cars to see what interiors they had. I’M surprised that Barnfinds had not only one, but two like this. I agree with Stan, nothing like upgrading a 260 V8 to pretty much anything bigger. If you’re going through the trouble and expense, may as well go the 350 route ( I’d preffer an Olds 350 but that’s me). And Scotty, I think perhaps Jeff who commented above me may possibly be hinting towards you making up a drop top version!!! ( I could be wrong….) Great wrote up Scotty and very nice find here I enjoyed it.
Driveinstile is correct. An Olds Rocket 🚀 350 would be the motor of choice.
That is an Oldsmobile 350, look at the oil fill tube up front.
Good news Will 🚀 Dr. Olds approves
It’s equipped with the rare optional Mojave interior
I love Oldsmobiles but they just may be the ugliest interior I have ever seen.
I like all 78-87 Cutless Olds period. Dropping a 350 engine in one is excellent. Interior has always been pretty straightforward and I could easily live with the interior of this car. I like it. I’d love driving this little cookie around.
Cool upholstery.
Wow, how unusual! I worked as a technician at Olds dealers from ’80 to ’95, worked on ALOT of Cutlasses, and I have never seen one of these!
Call me a purist if you will, but the good Dr. Olds is very restless in his grave. The W-wrong stripe package needs to be gone; otherwise it’s a keeper.
