Pontiac’s muscle car was still going strong in 1970, with a couple of notable changes including a minor facelift and also some improvements in the handling department, such as the addition of a rear anti-sway bar which resulted in less body lean than the previous model. If you’ve been on the hunt for a nice driver-quality example that’s still mostly original, this 1970 Pontiac GTO here on eBay might be a good car to consider. The goat is located in Las Vegas, Nevada, where bidding has already reached $21,500 but is still short of reserve.
The seller doesn’t give us too much background on this one but does say that most of the paint appears to be original, and he’s also upfront in mentioning there are some dings and scrapes, along with fading on the finish. If you want it perfect, the idea of a repaint is thrown out, but I really like the Pontiac’s presentation like it is and would probably hold off on a respray for a while, and just enjoy driving it around for a few seasons before addressing anything outside.
The original numbers-matching 400 can still be found in the bay, which is stated to be running very well but no word on if it’s ever had an overhaul. Mileage is listed as 109,000, not all that excessive for more than 50 years on the road, so if that’s accurate and the motor has been properly maintained there’s a good chance it maybe hasn’t needed a complete rebuild yet. Some recent maintenance has been performed in the fuel areas, including a new gas tank, sending unit, and fuel pump, plus that’s also a new set of Cooper Cobra tires all the way around.
With only the carpet being an exception, the interior is stated as all original, and while it’s got a few flaws things inside don’t really look all that bad overall, with perhaps the armrest and driver’s side bucket showing the most wear. We’re also provided with a few shots from down below, which seem to show a solid undercarriage with everything appearing to be structurally sound on the south side.
The new owner may decide to take this GTO to the next level right away, which there’s absolutely nothing wrong with, but I’m enjoying the original look and feel we’re getting here and couldn’t bring myself to give it a complete restoration quite yet. I might address the seat issues first then do some work on the console, but hold off on any sort of bodywork, at least for a while. What would you do?

Seller may want to start by vacuuming trunk and under hood of all that dust and dirt, cleaning up the spare – basic tidyness for sure!

My guess is while you’re making suggestions somebody else is buying it. Too bad it’s an auction otherwise you might have time to encourage the seller to do those things before someone else buys it
too bad it’s not a stick shift, I had the same car, year, color everything, never should have sold it, but mine was a stick.
My buddy who taught me how to do commercial/industrial plumbing has one almost identical to this one, colors and all, except his is a ‘Judge’, with all the extra striping,and is a bit shinier, you could eat off the floor. But my favorite is his 67 Goat, metallic burgundy, black vinyl top, and that nasty 67 front end that looks like it would bite you if you got too close. I have to take a rag to wipe the drool off my chin every time I visit… Sweet ride here, I’d certainly be happy to drive it!

I had a red 70 GTO that I rolled after hitting the only deer in the county back in 1979. I still use the dual snorkal air cleaner on my K30.
The engine and trans went into a 66 Chevelle.
