Muscle Car Barn Find: 1995 Chevrolet Impala SS

When we think of a short list of potential modern muscle cars, the Chevrolet Impala SS is likely on most top 10 roundups. It’s already a bona-fide collector’s item and good cars command top dollar. Among modern-day domestics with four doors, there aren’t many cars that can make that claim. Spotless Impala SS examples will clear $30,000 easily, so I’m sure a few potential suitors are watching this listing for a barn find example here on eBay with bids to $3,000 and no reserve.

Personally, I love the SS. The subtle styling cues are among my favorite features, beyond the horsepower itself. The trunk lid spoiler, the front and rear aprons and side skirts, and the taillights with the grid lines – along with the gorgeous emblems – all provide clues as to why this isn’t your grandmother’s Impala. The SS is located in Fresno, California, so one can hope rust is non-existent.

The interior isn’t pictured particularly well, but it does show that the Impala retains its factory stereo. The biggest differentiator between different years of the SS is whether it has a column-mounted or floor-mounted shifter, and this being an earlier car, the transmission stick is on the column. It’s a matter of personal preference which design suits your needs, but the floor-mounted shifter makes the big-body SS look a touch more modern inside.

Even though there’s a lot to love here – and you can’t beat the current bid price – the Impala does have some flaws. The seller discloses that the transmission is slipping and that after first firing up when removed from storage, it now no longer runs. The seller speculates bad gas has clogged the injectors, so the SS will need the usual post-storage servicing that any barn find requires. Even with these issues, this Impala SS seems like a very smart buy.

186 thousand miles is the reason out in the shed. This will need a complete engine rebuild as well as the transmission.
Then interior as those seat covers are beat badly.
    Then paint soon.

I think one might be ahead paying 25-27 for a under 60,000 miles model in better shape.

Dark Cherry Metallic and Dark Gray Green were available beginning in 1995.

Funny, I just saw the identical car yesterday in a field in Conklin New York. I’ll bet it could be bought for less.

Never ! These things were ugly from the start and looked like overweight old men needing to retire.

I pretty much agree with Dave. When I first heard that Chevy was resurrecting the SS, I had high hopes. They did the power train right, and the exterior was subtly sporty (maybe too subtle), but that interior design was a complete fail, lacking any sporting flair.

The interior got a minor boost in 1996 with the floor mounted shifter and tach, but other than that, they were rather bland. That being said, I had a 96 and it was a pleasure to drive. Decent handling and power for something that seemed to be as big as a whale!

These were nice and fast cars. This ad makes my day because it brings back memory’s. Back then I had a 94 Ford Taurus SHO Red with the Yamaha V6. One day on the interstate highway I found one of these along side me at 60 mpg wanting to race. So we kicked it at 60 and away we went at 110 we were still side by side when I backed out of it. When he saw I had backed out he did the same got along side we gave each other a wave of respect and away he went. I stayed the speed limit I don’t think any 2 better matched cars could have run upon each other like that. I don’t think these cars get the respect they deserve. GLWTA

That’s OK, I’d rather have a Buick Roadmaster. Same drivetrain and a lot more car.
