The Coronet nameplate was revived in 1965 and applied to Dodge’s B-body intermediates going forward. The restyle of 1970 brought a bold split grille/headlight arrangement that applied to all body styles, even a family station wagon. The seller, a dealer/collector, has what appears to be an original 1970 Coronet 440 wagon with just 42,000 miles. It has a rear-facing third bench seat, yet sports “poverty” hub caps. Located in Ardmore, Oklahoma, this Mopar people mover is available here on eBay for $52,000 (yes, really). Thanks for the tip, “Curvette”.

1970 Coronets competed with the likes of the Chevrolet Chevelle and Ford Torino. The 440 model featured a higher level of trim that was likely on par with the Chevy Malibu. 440 wagons didn’t make up a huge portion of Coronet production, coming in at just under 4,000 with 2-seat passenger capacity and 3,800 3-seaters. The seller’s wagon has the latter and an all-vinyl interior, though there is an odd seat cover on the bottom of the front seat. It’s either there to protect the original upholstery or hiding worn spots the seller doesn’t address.

This Coronet is described as a survivor with low miles. Since a lot of documentation will be provided, we assume the mileage claim will be substantiated. The green paint looks original, as does the interior, and the middle bench even has a vintage child seat with a built-in steering wheel to keep the kiddie entertained. The listing says the engine is a 440 cubic inch V8, but I’m not sure he/she isn’t confusing that with the name of the car. Just because it’s a Coronet 440 doesn’t necessarily mean it has a 440 motor.

This is one of the nicer 56-year-old wagons we’ve seen here on Barn Finds and doesn’t appear to have any flaws (besides the possible front seat). So, this could be a great vintage transport to add to an arsenal, but is the seller’s asking price going to attract the Cars & Coffee crowd?

This ad is through an overpriced listing agency. They have more than 800 cars/vehicles listed, with a total of 3 sales over the last 90 days.
The price is ridiculous, no matter how nice this wagon is, the possibility of getting $52,000 is pure fantasy.

Never seen one. Very kewl! Id’ love to tow a vintage sport boat boat or camper with this mean green machine.
The factory engines choices for this wagon are :
A) 318 ci standard
B) 383 ci optional
Yes, the price is outrageous!!!
It’s a 318 the distributor is in the back BB were in the front.
Pretty clearly a 318. Or at least an LA based small block.
Nice but priced twice whats worth.
Yes, distributor in the back is a small block.
True.
How is a consignment company doing the seller and the buyer any favors by not even knowing what they are selling? I always thought consignment was a value added service where you are paying someone for their expertise.
And, does the buyer have any recourse from either the seller or the listing agency once they find out that they bought a lie?
Pure laziness combined with low IQ. Just trying to make a buck without any work.
Why does BF continue to give publicity to those that ask ridiculous prices for their vehicles? This is a waste of everyone’s time.
Because this is an interesting car. I’m just window shopping, not a serious buyer, but I like to see different cars. It likely won’t sell for the ask, then none of us will be surprised when it pops up somewhere else for a more reasonable ask. Just enjoy the ride, it’s going to be alright.
I agree that it is an interesting car, but the comments about it will be overshadowed by the sheer number of overpriced comments.
Why are people trying to get outrageous price for a 70 Mopar. It’s a wagon with a 318 engine! Maybe $30,000.00 since its in good shape and the mileage is low. For 54 large ones again sorry let reality setting and come up with a fair price. 🇺🇸🐻
even if it did have the optional motor (383ci), not for 52k
Even if it had the 440 engine the price they’re asking for is still too much.
I tried to message the seller to tell them about the engine size discrepancy, but it’s not a regular eBay messaging and you have to put in all of your information and I would rather not have them have my information
The wagon itself is pretty cool and if it wasn’t in such nice shape, it would be really cool for someone to turn this into a Super Bee wagon of some sort.
Clean Brady Bunch Bang Bus. If Mike and Carol had this beauty, they could have made one more in the back and had themselves a full baseball team! For $52K they probably would have had to fire Alice and cook and clean for themselves.
I just spit my coffee out laughing!
Nice 318 wagon with astronomical price!
At least it’s not another “rust bucket Mopar!”
I’ve always wondered how the station wagon would look with a Daytona beak on it. As this a $25 to $35 thousand vehicle at the best.
It is cool. Not for that kinda scratch. I used to think that was a really cool looking front end. The older I get, the uglier it gets. Could’ve bought a nicer looking Plymouth wagon and saved a few bucks.
The moment that I saw the first picture I was immediately reminded of the 1965 – 1968 Dodge Monaco tail lights! Beautiful when used as tail lights but as ugly as all get out when used as headlights!
My Partner in our car business just sold Crestwood.
Crestwood is one of 3 REAL Four Speed Wagons with a 383 that were built. 2 exist one is gone.
Crestwood is the only completely original numbers matching in original as built condition of the 3 built and it sold for far less than $52,000
I’m not sure what you’re saying, can you please explain more. What is crestwood?
My wife is pregnant.
We need that baby seat!
Crazy price! If it was a black and red, 383, 4 speed, with air it would be worth $35K at the most. Love the ’70 Coronet front end though. Marc.
Gorgeous wagon! Love it! Always wanted one with 3rd seat! Cut the price in half, and I’m in!
No way is this worth 52,000 and it does not have a 440 because it is a 318
this guy thinks he is slick calling himself collector when he is nothing more than a flipper/dealer. this is maybe a 25k car. bet this clown stole it for around 10k. it nice but it’s just a s/b coronet.
Based on the tear on the passenger front seat back, I’m going to assume that the bottom is trashed and that’s why the cover still on it. I’m guessing on the floor in the back of the passenger side is the folded up other half of that front seat cover. I guess I don’t need to mention how ridiculous the price is.
I see a distributor is in the rear of the e engine so that means it’s a small block
One must be careful with these things. We once purchased a ’67 GTO in a long sought after color. When I contacted the owner he asked where I saw the car listed, when I told him he said he had no idea what that site was or how they got his listing.
There’s pirates out there that take legitimate listings and make it look like their own but at a higher price. There’s a scam a minute out there…
A rare bird for sure and having owned a ’70 Super Bee I always did like the looks of the front end on this year. Putting that aside though, this is still just a Coronet 440 wagon. Even in pristine condition, which this isn’t, I can see what appears to be rust on the right side rear quarter dog leg, besides the ripped seating among other issues, this is $10’s of thousands higher than what it should be priced at. I had to laugh at they’re ad text, “we are liquidating some of our collection with the lowest prices out there”, are you kidding me lol?
No barn find here ?
Nice looking car. I’ve seen plenty of 1970 Dodge Coronets growing up, but not many station wagons. I’ve had people ask me “What can you do with a station wagon?” I always laugh to myself at the question. Given its cargo capacity compared to the sedan or coupe, I’ll bet you could do a lot of things with a station wagon.
I drove this car’s twin in 1979-1981. Loved the back door which could swing open like a door or fold down like a tailgate. And definitely had the 318 in it. It could carry my whole street hockey team including goalie equipment. Great memories.
Two words, Make offer.
That upholstery is NOT original. Chrysler never offered anything remotely like that in a 1970 Coronet. Yes, that is definitely a 318 car, very ordinary, not well-optioned, and does not even have AC or the dress-up package that many 440’s had. It is probably an L code car, at best. I wouldn’t give a cent over 20 for it.
Are you talking about the front seat COVER? With having no AC, that seat cover is a necessary accessory and it’s probably covering a split or two..
