Neat First Classic: 1946 Ford Super Deluxe Coupe

Sometimes when you’re looking for a classic car, what you aspire to is a classic that has undergone a painstaking restoration, while at other times you might be seeking a nice car that you can simply climb into and enjoy. This 1946 Ford Super Deluxe Coupe probably fits into the latter category, but it still presents as a very nice vehicle. The car is located in Georgetown, Texas, and is listed for sale here on eBay. I would like to thank Barn Finder Ikey H for spotting this little gem for us.

The owner of the Ford says that the car doesn’t have a show-quality finish, but that it does present well. The paint looks good, although I’m not convinced that it is original. The rest of the exterior, the trim, and the glass also look really good, while the whitewall tires add an additional air of class to the car.

While it may not present as well as the rest of the car, the general condition of the engine and engine-bay present about as well as I would expect for a largely original car of this age. The flathead V8 is backed by a manual transmission, and the owner says that it is really smooth to drive. The car has been fitted with a dual exhaust, which would make the car sound quite sweet.

The interior is in almost faultless condition, and it looks like a rather pleasant place to spend a leisurely Sunday on a relaxed drive. Apart from the rubber-bladed fan fitted to the driver’s side of the dash, the rest of the dash itself looks original and is a work of art to look at. The carpet edges, especially in the foot-wells, aren’t the neatest, but this is a neat and clean interior that is there to be enjoyed.

This 1946 Ford Super Deluxe is a car that could be driven every day, and while it isn’t a show-quality car, it is a neat car that can be enjoyed. This is a car that would really suit a person who was considering their first foray into classic car ownership, as it seems to be a fairly affordable option. The owner has set the opening bid at what seems to be a very reasonable $14,000, and the good news is that it is a No Reserve auction. So, a single bid could win this Ford for someone.

Good looking car. Make a great entry for a first time old car guy. Price is very fair for what it is.

The little fan is only needed at standstill. Pop that hood vent open at 40 and you’ll get a rush of air that will cool you down quick.

Hmmm……..even taking the owners’ word for it that its original, wasn’t the engine on the ’46’s blue? The chromed dash fascia is interesting. I wonder if that’s original. I thought they were all plastic (bakelite), I suppose I should know but I can’t remember :). I love the spotlight. Been wanting to put one in my car but I’m hesitant to drill the pillar.

I bought the identical car, although not in nearly as nice condition, when I was 15. I love the sound of a flathead Ford coming to life, probably cause it happened so seldom for me lol But roll it down the driveway, jump in and pop the clutch and don’t dare stall it lol The gas station attendant ragged on me by asking Fill up the oil and check the gas? In those days, you could buy reclaimed oil in a two gallon can and I went thru a lot of it. I saw a lot of those rubber bladed fans in those days, but mostly they were aimed to keep air moving across the windshield to defog…. and most of those cowl vents were caulked or tarred shut cause they always leaked. This one claims to have 90k miles, most of them were worn out by that time as I recall but if there was a way I could raise the money, this one would be in my garage.

Very nice car, but very little on it is original; been rehabbed at least once. Paint is not original, but “original color”. Iridescent gray gun metal, I think they call it. Regardless, I’d like to have this in my garage. Price seems to be right on the numbers, maybe even a little low. Based on the engine pics I would like to see the under carriage.

Ok, I’m not a purists, but there is nothing prettier than a Flathead with Offy heads, and tri-power with Stromburg 97 carbs! Simplistic beauty!!! Nice car, it would be a good weekend driver. FLATHEADS RULE FOREVER!!!
