No Reserve: 1964 Chevrolet Corvette

The seller describes this 1964 Corvette Coupe as a real head-turner, and it is hard to argue with that description. The photo quality is below standard, but they paint a generally positive picture of this classic. However, it hasn’t received a single bid since they listed it here on eBay in Mokena, Illinois. They set their auction to open at $55,000, and while there has been no action so far, the decision to offer it with No Reserve may change that situation.

Chevrolet offered Corvette buyers a choice of eight paint shades in 1964, with this car’s original owner selecting Daytona Blue. It is a color that does the C2’s lines justice and helps the chrome and trim to sparkle and shine. The seller describes the exterior condition as very good, which doesn’t appear to be an exaggeration. There are no visible flaws or defects in the panels or paint, but the low photo quality means it would require an in-person inspection to confirm this. They don’t mention rust issues, and the supplied underside shots reveal there shouldn’t be any problems on that front. I don’t think I can describe the Corvette as pristine, but every aspect of the vehicle suggests it could be considered a high-end driver. The side exhaust adds a sense of purpose, although it is unclear whether it is original to the car. It is a similar story with the knock-off wheels because some high-quality reproduction items can be hard to separate from the genuine articles unless inspected carefully. The trim looks acceptable for a car of this caliber, and there are no glaring glass faults.

The greatest mystery with this Corvette reveals itself when we open the hood. The engine bay houses a 327ci V8 that sends its power to the road via a four-speed manual transmission. The seller doesn’t indicate whether this classic is numbers-matching or which version of the 327 this is. However, with at least 250hp and 350 ft/lbs of torque on tap, the ‘Vette will be anything but slow. They recently fitted a dual master cylinder, which they stated was a safety consideration. I acknowledge that is a wise move because nothing ruins an outing behind the wheel of any classic than to hit the middle pedal and find it sinking to the floor. They say this beauty runs and drives well, and everything works as it should. It appears it is a turnkey proposition for the winning bidder.

Ordering a ’64 Corvette in Daytona Blue brought a choice of three interior trim colors, with this car’s original owner selecting Blue. This is the only interior shot, which doesn’t tell us much. However, there are no signs of issues with the upholstered surfaces or evidence of aftermarket additions. The gauges look crisp and clean, with no significant wheel wear. The car features an AM/FM radio to relieve boredom on long journeys.

Cars like this 1964 Corvette Coupe cause me to shake my head. These are desirable classics, and potential buyers typically trip over each other in a bidding war. This seller has done themself a disservice with the supplied photos because they make an in-person inspection essential if its actual condition is to be revealed. I believe that is why there have been no bids, and I’m unsure whether the situation will change before the auction ends. What do you think?

Likely not enough information given by the seller for a serious collector to make a serious bid. This car in Daytona Blue sure looks stunning !

I’m in agreement about a No Reserve. This will be a great vehicle for someone. I had one like it. Daytona Blue with the navy interior. As a matter of fact mine was a 1-owner at purchase. His wife had given it to him when he retired from the US Navy as an admiral. Sad to let it go.

The knock-off wheels were available from the factory in 1964, but the side exhaust wasn’t until 1965.

Once I see a black spray on the underside I get suspicious. It looks like undercoating and thickness may vary. That said it a nice looking Coupe.

Missing the vents on the B pillar. 64 and 65s both had those vents.

Very strange car has 63-64 front fender vents no 64-65 roof vents.
Door figment on passenger door along the roof doesn’t look good

As mentioned. No roof vents. Buyer beware. Probably has a 65 rear clip. Gone by 66. Saw a mint Bloomington Gold 64 coupe today at a local show. Far better than this one. Absolutely perfect panel fit, better than St. Louis did it.
