No Reserve: 1977 Ford F-250 4×4

With warm weather on the horizon, the thoughts of many will turn to how they will hit the trails to commune with Mother Nature. There are plenty of options that can be driven off the showroom floor, but these cost money. Sometimes, a lot of money. Alternatively, classics like this 1977 Ford F-250 Custom 4×4 are worth a look. They offer similar off-road capabilities to new vehicles and, when listed with No Reserve, are considerably cheaper. I must say a big thank you to Barn Finder Jim for spotting this F-250 listed here on eBay in Spanaway, Washington. Intense bidding has pushed the price to $10,100, and there is still time to stake a claim on a Pickup that is mere days away from finding a new home.

Ford’s F-Series model range has been an integral part of the company’s product lineup since 1948, and it appears there is no chance that the situation will change in the foreseeable future. The Sixth Generation remained on showroom floors from 1973 until 1979, with the first owner ordering our feature F-250 in 1977 in a combination of Light Tan and Polar White. The seller describes the paint as older, suggesting it may have undergone a refresh at some point. However, I agree with their statement that it still looks good, and would be fine if the buyer prefers the “survivor” look. There are a couple of repairable dings and dents, but none are severe enough to warrant panel replacement. The underside shots show no evidence of penetrating rust, the trim looks respectable, and the glass is clear. However, the exterior is probably defined by the Rough Country 4″ Lift Kit and the enormous 35″ All Terrain tires. They indicate that it would take something pretty substantial to stop this beast in its tracks.

The mechanical specifications should ensure that this F-250 can cope with almost anything the buyer can throw at it. The first owner equipped it with a 400ci V8, a three-speed automatic transmission, and a dual-range transfer case. Maneuvering a rig like this in tight confines can be challenging, but the power-assisted steering and brakes mean the driver won’t need muscles like The Incredible Hulk in those circumstances. Ford produced the 400 with a greater focus on torque than power, and the figures confirm that. The driver has 173hp at their disposal and an impressive 326 ft/lbs of torque. What makes the torque figure more impressive is that it is delivered low in the engine’s rev range. That makes it ideal for towing, load-carrying, or off-road adventures. Potential buyers can consider this F-250 a turnkey classic. Its V8 starts easily, runs smoothly, and everything works as it should. That life of adventure may only be a twist of the key away for the winning bidder.

I would describe this Pickup’s interior as tidy, but not dazzling. One of its most significant attributes is that the pad hasn’t waved the white flag in the face of UV exposure. The seller also admits that the slipcover hides seat splits and that the mat is ripped. However, it looks tidy and, if off-road adventures are on the agenda, it could probably be left untouched so that mud and other icky substances don’t spoil pristine trim. Aftermarket additions include a range of gauges and a modern CD stereo.

Classic Pickups almost invariably attract attention when they hit the market, and this 1977 Ford F-250 Custom 4×4 is no exception. The numbers tell the story, with over 570 listing views in the past day, and 141 people placing it on their Watch List. That makes me believe that the twenty bids might be just the beginning and that the action will intensify fairly soon. Are you tempted to join the fun? I won’t blame you if you do.

Pretty nice old Ford. Had several over the years as work trucks. Currently own a 1979 F250 4X4. Back when trucks were made for work, but also had a few creature comforts. Surprised there were no comments on this.
