This 1980 Pontiac Trans Am is located in Katy, Texas. There is only one day remaining in the no reserve auction, listed here on eBay. Currently, the Trans Am is bid to $7,625 after 34 bids. The car is listed as a running and driving project. As noted in the pictures, the car has a custom paint job that is in poor condition but it does grab your attention because it is different than factory.
The interior is worn but represents the optional deluxe interior that could be ordered with cloth hobnail seats the custom door panels. The car has tilt steering, automatic transmission, T-Tops and what looks like an aftermarket stereo and tape deck. The shifter knob is missing and the red seats are heavily worn. The dash is cracked which is going to cost about $1,000 to repair if you pull it out and ship it off to Al Knoch Interiors or Just Dashes.
The seller states that the Trans Am is equipped with a 301 cubic inch V8 engine backed by a GM Turbo 350 automatic transmission. This was the base engine in 1980 and was rated at only 155 horsepower when equipped with a 4 barrel carburetor. The optional engine for 1980 and 1981 was the turbocharged 301 cubic inch V8 (LU8) engine, The turbo 301 cubic inch V8 engine (4.9 liter) was rated at 210 horsepower in 1980 and 200 horsepower in 1981. The LU8 engine was equipped with a Garrett TB305 turbo and a Rochester Quadrajet 4-barrel carburetor. The seller notes that the engine will need a tune up but is running after the fuel tank and fuel lines were flushed.
This car would looks like a pretty good project car. The factory wheels are gone and replaced with Crager SS chrome wheels. The car is said to have minor rust and has been sitting for a long time. The car looks pretty solid and I imagine someone is going to buy this and upgrade the drivetrain and replace the interior. In the meantime, it can be driven and turn alot of heads!
Paint scheme looks like a Camaro Rally Sport.
For a Texas car, looks like it’s spent quite a bit of time on some nice and salty roads.
